There's pain in regret

Marcasite Obsidian
Marcasite Obsidian
Not volunteering for Andy changed everything, and it wasn't for the better. Marcasite Obsidian, after not taking his brother's place, felt intense regret, especially since the boy was killed. Not only was the boy killed, but ambushed along with his allies, and on top of that, he was the first to go. Marc's father, Pyrite Obsidian, tries to assure the remaining of the two brothers that it's not his fault that Andesite is dead now. It's likely that, had Marc volunteered in Andy's place, Andy would have volunteered for a future Hunger Games anyway, given his intense want to win the Games.
The cruel man that raised Andesite was named Flynn, and he made it so that Andy believed he needed to go into the Games and win in order to prove himself worthy of respect. Therefore, there was no doubt that Andy would have done anything to accomplish such a thing. Nowadays, Marc wishes that his father had at least told him that his brother existed. Maybe then he could have at least saved him for a little while longer, as he would have made the decision to volunteer for him much more quickly. Perhaps it would have even knocked some sense into the younger boy so that he wouldn't volunteer for a future Games, had he been saved the first time.
Marc was a vengeful person, however. When the girl from Ten, Noelia Tibideaux, killed Andesite Obsidian, Marcasite's main desire was to take down the District Ten tributes, should he ever put himself forward for the Games. He'd had two opportunities to volunteer for the Games after Andesite died. The problem was, however, that he never built up the courage to volunteer and go through with his vengeance.
Now, Marcasite was full of regret. There was nothing he could do to volunteer now, as he was too old for the Games and couldn't turn back time. He could have gotten revenge, seeing as he hadn't saved his brother, but he didn't. As the years went on, Marc just felt worse and worse about himself for not going through with volunteering any of the times that he could have. The young man had trained for years for the Games, and now, his training had seemingly gone to waste. Despite now using his skills to train others for the Games, he wasn't as proud of himself as he would have been, had he volunteered for the Games and did what he wanted to.
As the young man grew older, his rage only built, never fading, and he wasn't sure it would ever truly fade. His self-hate built more and more, and there was nothing he could do to stop it.
