Work it out, yeah, we’ll survive
You mustn’t let a few bad times dictate…
Florence left the cornucopia with Lavina. She wasn’t sure how far they went. They had to get away. Suddenly the child stopped, breathing heavily. What if Stitch and Ping were still back there? No matter how much she wanted to stay where she was and wait for them to appear, she had to make sure they were all right. Not come too close, just check if they are still there. If they needed help, that was what she had to do. Florence turned around and rushed back into the direction where she came from…
In a couple of minutes, the child understands that she is lost. The trees here look unfamiliar. Although don’t all trees look the same way? Maybe she is heading in the right direction. However, something about this place seems different. Florence stops for a second to look around and examine her surroundings. Finally, she understands what is different. There is a cheerful sound of water coming from somewhere.
Florence makes a few steps forward cautiously and finds herself beside a small creek. The water in it is rather dirty and the child doesn’t want to risk coming closer to it. However, the water looks tempting, especially after all the running. Suddenly she hears an odd sound coming from above her head and notices two parachutes landing in front of her. One of them holds an empty canteen and the other one has a few bandages. Florence smiles and waves at the sky - hopefully whoever sent this can see how thankful she is.
Bending down to the creek to fill the empty container, she notices a few large… footprints? They are clearly visible on the muddy shore and don’t really look like they could belong to a human being, but who knows, maybe they were made by someone’s enormous feet.
Florence sighs, thinking for a moment about whom she would prefer to meet, a huge tribute who will probably bring allies with them or a bloodthirsty monstrous killing machine. If it is a person, they might turn out to be one of her friends and then maybe they will help her find her allies…
Ping, Stitch and Lavina are probably together now. Maybe they are worried sick about where she is and why she vanished all of a sudden. Now she is alone in the middle of nowhere and can’t protect her allies. Lavina looked like she was injured badly, but she is strong. Stitch seems just as tough. And Ping? Can she make it if she is wounded too? Yes, she might not be a career and maybe she is not very muscular, but she is kind and determined and it is the most powerful weapon.
Florence clutches her spear in her hand and smiles. If the monsters come, she can fight them. And then her friends will find her and they will all live happily ever after. Well, as happily as it is possible here. They are together and nothing can ever separate them. Even the Capitol and all the mutts in Panem.
Suddenly the child has a wonderful idea. She picks up a small branch and begins writing in the mud:
“Dear mommy and everybody else
Everything is great here. I love the scenery and the weather is good so far. I hope you are all right too and I love you all.
-Florence”
When she is finally done with the letter, she is exhausted and decides to rest for a while before going to look for her friends. Florence sits down, tucks the canteen with water and the bandages into her backpack and tries to relax a little.
Everything will be all right. Because they all have their love to protect them. And love is light that cannot be extinguished.
