Debbie Riptide.
As soon as I open my eyes, I begin my detective routine. Investigating isn't a job or a hobby. It is a way of life. If you give up on it, it will give up on you and you'll never solve any cool cases. This is why every morning when I wake up, I take a look at the district map on the wall and decide which part of it I will be patrolling today. It is usually a random choice, but an important one. If my luck fails me and I choose the wrong place to keep an eye on, a brutal crime might happen somewhere else and all my work will be in vain.
During breakfast, I usually smile at my aunt and say that I want to go for a walk, trying to sound as innocent as I possibly can. Things usually go as planned with aunt Meri, because she doesn't like to intervene in our personal lives as long as what we do seems safe, more or less.
I take a small notebook and a pencil with me and run outside. Today I will be watching a place not far from our home. When I get there, I see a pet shop nearby and my feet slow down a little. I am not supposed to be distracted by anything when I am investigating. I come closer and begin searching the ground by the shop for clues. Criminals can be everywhere and it means that maybe I will find something interesting.
There's nothing in the grass, nothing behind the bushes... Maybe I should go into the shop because the animals are so cute... I mean, I can ask someone in there about crime in the neighbourhood.
I open the door and come inside carefully. There is no fresh crime scene there, but there are hedgehogs! Cute little hedgehogs! I decide to postpone my important job and stare at the beautiful animals for a while. It's a pity we can't have an animal. There are too many of us and my aunt says that we can barely afford our own food.
