I've always liked breaking the rules. Evading the normality of society is ever so pleasing to me. 'Fitting in' has never been my goal in life. I'd much rather be an outsider, lurking in the shadows and doing as I please. That was how I was raised, after all. Growing up in Flynn's household had a negative effect on most of the kids, but not on me, even if other people like to think that it messed me up. If anything, being raised by Flynn taught me how to be more independent. You couldn't rely on the other kids to keep Flynn happy with you. If you didn't want to be punished, you had to do what he said.
I personally feel that this caused me to be much more capable of taking care of my own needs. Sure, taking care of my own needs often involves doing so in a dishonest way, such as through stealing things from others. I've always been a pickpocket. A thief. A kleptomaniac. You can use whatever words you want to describe what I've always done to get by, but I don't particularly care what you think of my lifestyle.
After I turned nineteen, I was kicked out of Flynn's house to go live on my own. Sure, I was one of his favorites in the house, but it was a rule that everyone had to abide by. As soon as you were too old to be in the Games, you were too old to live in his house. That was just how things worked around there. Now, I'm twenty-three years old, and I still get by just fine. I have my own home that I paid for with the money I've accumulated through taking things from others, whether that be physical cash that I stole from them or items that I rid them of and sold for my own profits, such as jewelry, watches and other items of value. I also take a bit of time out of my week to train career hopefuls, which brings in a little bit of cash.
Quite recently, I discovered an even better way to make money with my thievery skills. Rather than just doing what I've always done and keeping or selling the things that I steal, I've been hired by someone to pick-pocket others at their underground nightclub known as the Crimson Goblet. In return, they pay me. It's a little bit more money than I was making before by just taking things for myself, so it's worth the slightly increased amount of work.
Today, I'd decided to take a wallet from a middle-aged man at the night club, as well as a diamond necklace from a young woman around my age who was there, too. These items, along with a few other things here and there, were collected by me throughout the night so that I would be paid in return by those that ran the Crimson Goblet.
When I was roaming the nightclub, looking for the next person to be a victim of myself as a midnight marauder, I spotted another pick-pocket, hired by the Crimson Goblet. Her name was Felicia Murkel. I'd seen her around before, but clearly, she wasn't doing a good enough job of not being spotted taking things from people, as I'd noticed her. Then again, I've always been a very observant person. This girl just had to hope that no one else had seen her take what she'd stolen from the young man not too far away from her.
As soon as the young man was no longer in earshot, I approached Felicia and spoke to her. I'd be teasing her a bit, as I always found amusement in doing that to other people.
"You should learn to be a bit sneakier, girl," I said to her in a low volume.
