Standing in the center of operations, eyes narrowed on the screen as a recap clip zoomed in on blood spreading out over too-green grass, she realized that she would accept no flaws.

Over the years, the Games had begun to lose their note of punishment. To the Capitol they were entertainment, to some districts a glorious battle, and to others a senseless nightmare they were required to endure. Hazel supposed the true meaning didn't matter to anyone bu the artist.
Secretly, in a part of her soil that even Snow couldn't see, she admired the long-dead rebels for their bravery. They hadn't feared gods. Only men with too much power. But they had been fools, too. Hadn't they realized there was no art in anarchy?
No, the interesting part was the idea, not the end result. The beauty in the rebels' fight, in the tributes' fight, was their desperation. There was something archaic about it. What happened to a man - to a child - when you tore them away from their lives and gave them everything to lose? What would they fight for? What would they become? It was like an intricate dance, unpredictable even to her.
If the Capitol demanded sacrifice, she would choreograph something beautiful. Hell, she would take it even further. It was time to strip them of everything.
Even their minds.
One of the assistants joined her where she stood at the control panel. "Gamemaker Levelwright says it's ready."
"Excellent." Hazel's fingers skimmed over the panel before pausing above a glinting silver button. "Tell her I'm starting the first phase." She paused, thoughtful. "And ask her what's for breakfast. I'd kill for some of those pancakes just about now."
The assistant nodded once and promptly left. Hazel's eyes remained focused on the screen, watching the tributes' fitful sleep.
"The gods have returned," she murmured, a speckled finger pressing the button. As the fog began to lift, her lips quirked into a smile. "And they are vengeful."
