Please check the window you are typing in!
When writing posts, making tables, and especially using dice rolls, please make sure of what reply window you are using. When writing a post you have the option of using the Preview or BBCode windows to write in. Please use the BBCode window when creating your post. You can always switch to the preview window to make sure things look as you want them to (the accuracy of this preview is generally good enough to give you an idea, though there are some sizing things with tables that may alter) but always do any coding in the BBCode window.
Writing in the preview will cause a number of issues, including:
- inserting [ span ] and [ break ] tags into your text that are unnecessary clutter
- breaking table codes with the [ span ] or [ break ] tags
- improperly converting table codes when pasted directly into preview
- pasting only a copy of the dice image (a blank white square) rather than the actual roll code
If you have any of these issues, or have had any of these issues, it is most likely due to the window you are using to write in.
There is an option to change which window automatically opens for you when you go to post.
1. Go to your profile and click "edit profile".
2. From there, go to Settings and scroll until you see "posting default".
3. Change the selection to BBCode.
Now the BBCode window will be the one that is open when you first hit reply so you don't have to remember to switch over every time. (Bonus tip: while here, you can also turn on drafts under "enable drafts" so that proboards will save your posts in case you accidentally close the window.)
If you have any questions about this information, pm me on the site or dm me on slack and I can go into more detail.
tl;dr
- preview window breaks things, use bbcode window instead
- especially bad for dice rolls/games things
- you can set the site to open the bbcode window automatically
