Silence is deadlier than noise.
The sound of nothing makes his stomach ache with the pressure of death looming over his head. The chopping block of Carter Laws' life was coming to fruition and yet here he is, sitting in a chair breathing like the world wasn't on fire. Relaxed shoulders and tense fingers, he waits for the death to loom over him like a shroud of a cloak that he can't escape. A tar that oozes itself onto his skin and marking him for death in the future. Just like Mitchell, he was going to die and that's all there was to it. Even Raisa, the girl who hears the dead, even said so.
"Mitchell hopes to see you soon."
Soon. Within time, they would be reunited. He knew what that meant. He knew what was going to be lost in order for this meeting to happen, but he wasn't going to let it happen. There's no chains on him, except the one of being a legacy. He would never have a legacy like Mitchell Laws. All that would be left is a end point where the words, Carter Laws died here, put in his timeline and it'd be all over. The door opens in that moment to the girl who hears the dead and speaks. Silence torn by the shreds of another legacy. Death looms over him as he speaks.
"Hello, Raisa?"
Feet extended outwards like there was no tension in his body, but underneath, he was a ball of nerves waiting to break apart at a moment's notice. A moment is all it takes for him to take in Raisa Mortuus in all of her glory. A pretty girl from Twelve with a wicked taste in conversations with others. After all, she talked to spirits or at least that's what he's heard and what she's told him before. Mortuus' were strange people, but they felt like safety despite it all.
"I'm guessing, Mitchell knew it was my time to go?"
