That’s what the day felt like as Kaius Judge took his thoughts and his feet to the Town Square for the day. Typically, the place was vacant, aside from when Io Wie made her speeches in front of Five, or when the games were starting to heat up. The latter reason was why peacekeepers and residents started to inject life back into the place. His mother and father left him alone for the weekend, citing work obligations as their reason to leaving the house to their son. Kaius knew what that meant, the ‘work’ reasons. In reality, he suspected it to be just another few days where they rekindle the relationship they had when they were younger.

His conversation with the Peacekeepers was standard. Compared to other teens his age, Kaius actually had a significant amount of respect for them. They were strict, but it was necessary for them to do their job. What would be best for District Five would be not having a need for them, though. Crimes, however, are inevitable, as Kaius knew from hearing his parents’ countless stories.

It was nothing but standard to see Kaius talking with the Peacekeepers. What about could be endless. Their jobs don’t have the best social capabilities, so he did what he could to help replenish what they’ve lost with their job.

However, what was not standard was a woman, in almost all black, hurrying past him in the Town Square. If nothing could be more obvious.

He didn’t mention it to the Peacekeepers, not yet. Kaius knew that being a tattletale did not automatically create good citizens. Helping people understand what they’re doing is wrong and diffusing the situation, however, would help.

“Hey,” he spoke out to the girl after catching up to her. “You okay?”
