My wounds are contained for now. I am now mummified. Head to toe in rolls and rolls of bandages, I have even got the sewing kit out today to tend to the gash in my abdomen. It is all my torso, the one place not lathered in armour. Thanks to whoever sponsored the boots and helmet, but have they even been watching the fight today? I doubt I can survive with just limbs and a head, so much important shit is like tucked up in that area. Not that an actual heart is beating inside my ribcage anyway.

We haven’t ventured far, the obscured signs are still displayed from a distance, but the area is soaked with thick tar, a perfect recipe for a disastrous fight tomorrow. Do I really have the sense to control fire if I can’t even stab a spear straight?

Another bird, this one I bigger than the vermin that I sent the piss pot away with. Perfect ivory feathers contrasting the dark surface that paints this area. Yeah, I’ll have that!

”Get here you slimy rat.” Hands stretched out and the sneaky thing flaps itself five feet away from me. It is playing games. It could fly far away from this shit hole and yet it just bounces to a spot not too far me. I guess they want me to catch it, a nice form of entertainment. They will all be betting on what obscurity I send next, well someone jumped ahead of them as a nice writing pad came in the parachute.

A fifty-page book of tributes from District Six, their portraits faded in orange behind the lines of each page. No names are attached to them, only my memory can identify each of my game’s ancestors. Even Teddy has his own page, looking smug as ever. Of course, I have drawn a moustache on him.

I need to be sneakier than this bird and quicker, I have no wings, but my brain seems to be bigger than it…

A cunning bastard, it will be flightless when I get my hands on it. Another sly escape from my grip. Really, I am not putting any thought into this, just pouncing like a predator. Maybe I should stalk it for a while, silence to calm its nerves and then BAM, I’ll have caught the beast.

I already know who my correspondence will be, I already have her name on my mailing list and there really is nobody in the arena that I care to ever communicate with. Dandelion as Angel called her. A girl who has laid her weapon on me and yet has spared my life. How my piss pot grudge has faded, why do I forgive a girl that has brought so much agony onto me? Her and that District Seven, the only two souls in this arena that have laid scars onto my skin and yet I cannot call them an enemy. Even Hellion is higher up on the hate the list.

I am a selfish bastard, why do I even care about two girls that have pushed me closer to my end? She deserves far worse than urine being sent to her…

I am steady with my feet as I creep behind the bird, it seems too oblivious to the world, only ready to react when I pounce. It may as well be waving a catch me if you can flag to tease me.

I just flick through the pages, landing onto any random one. A male, he seems newly familiar, must be from one of the recent. A something? Think his surname was Knight or maybe Kite. Well I guess he is getting written over.
