Catherine Spark Be the change When it comes to making a difference, I've decided, what better way to do it than to do it myself? That's why I want to become the mayor of District Three. I've called District Three my home for the entirety of my life, and the same goes for every single other citizen who lives there. Since District Three is forever going to be my home, it only makes sense to me to make it the best place it possibly can be, for me, for my children, and for everyone else who lives there. It had been requested of me, that day, to make an inter-district phone call, which was something that I'd never done before. Very few people in the Districts have ever had the luxury of venturing outside of their own District, even by means of a phone call. Sure, the Panem permit office had recently opened, but that was for strictly business travel between Districts. You needed to have quite the good reason to go to a District outside of your own. This particular inter-district phone call would be with a candidate who was running for mayor in another District, and it was to be a debate of sorts, despite the fact that we weren't actually running against one another. At least this was an opportunity for the people to hear what we each thought when it came to our ideas for the District. His name was Laws... something Laws. I knew that name all too well, as there had been multiple tributes in the past who'd shared that last name. Surely, this man was on the same page as me, having lost loved ones to the Games. The phone call began, and I greeted the other candidate, introducing myself by name, Catherine Spark. Then, the first question was asked, which I promptly answered. "I personally feel that everyone has their own view of what is considered a difficulty in this world. Something that most of us likely can agree on, however, is that the loss of a child is one of the most difficult things a parent can experience," I paused for a moment before I continued. "I lost my son, Bolts Spark, in the 74th Games, and, later, my daughter, Florence Spark, in the 79th Games. I, however, have prevailed. Of course, I grieved for some time, and of course, from time to time, I still do actively mourn the loss of my children. I've gotten through a lot of the difficult aspects of this, however, by helping others who need it. I reach out to those who have lost their loved ones. They're not the only ones, though. I care for everyone in this District, and I help them all however I can. If I can help them, it makes me feel like maybe I'm a bit of a better person than I used to me. It makes me feel like I would have made my children proud, which makes me happy with who I am." You wish to see in the world |
