[attr="class","rose"]The memories from five years ago make her hands shake. Seven years ago she would have combatted the shaking with a needle, knowing the withdrawal was on its way. Now, though, she simply grips her speech tighter, crinkling the edges just a little. The faces before her are different than before, older. So is she. Now, she just has to prove it. "You may remember the last time I stood here five years ago. I do. I want you to know that my goals have not changed, my resolve has not wavered. If anything, I am more dedicated to the betterment of life for us all. Rehabilitation is a scary word for a scary problem that we cannot deny exists. I would be proud to continue my work in helping those who have no homes and no hope. Continuing on from the work Mayor Wie had put in, I would expand upon her programs. We will no longer lose valuable members of society to alcohol and drugs. The children on the street will have a safe place to live where they no longer have to rely on theft to survive. We would become a better district. We would become better people." She looks off over the heads of the crowd, wondering if Patricia might actually support her this time. Io Wie did. "I have become more than I was five years ago. I have lived more years, seen more things, helped more people. With your votes I can apply that to the district in an even greater way." Her words are failing, normally she is better at speaking but today all she can think of is her sister's disbelief from five years ago. Back then Tricia couldn't see her as anything other than a little girl trying to pretend she was older. Perhaps she had been back then, but now she was more than that. "Thank you." |
