Five did everything he could to take his siblings back far enough to prevent
the disaster.

It almost worked.

He watched as his siblings' age melted away, and the specter of a dead brother
suddenly reappeared as flesh and bone. In the end, the year was 2004, and none
of them could remember exactly why they were all standing in a circle. Years
passed, and history began to repeat itself, but at the corners of the fabric of
reality, things were cracking. They would get... feelings... urges... to go
against their will, to change the world in ways they didn't understand. By 2018,
their brother Ben was still alive. Vanya's powers had been discovered, however
late, and coped with. She was a functioning, if reluctant, member of their
little band of heroes. All seemed well.

The Commission has always existed just outside the grips of time and space, but
even they felt the apocalypse and its subsequent reversal of fortune. As the
dust unsettled, they took stock. Orders came down from above. The timeline was
breaking down, and something had to be done. The previous avenue was no longer
viable, and so a new one must be discovered. The apocalypse didn't wait for the
violin's final chord. It would come, had to come, to keep the balance. If Vanya
Hargreeves was determined to play the hero, well then, there were still thirty-
six other children born that fateful day in 1989.
