Anthem - Day 5

The never-ending night must come to an end soon. The peaceful darkness of the fourth day is abruptly shattered by the anthem echoing across the plains. Its eerie blue light even more haunting without a single face to show. The music crescendos and then stops, leaving you to wonder how many hours it is until morning.


Sixteen left. The fifteen other tributes may seem like peers now, but in the end they will always be your enemy. Music drifts across the fields from the big top. It’s show has been ignored, and it seems to hunger for an audience.

Congratulations on surviving Day Four!

You were weary of closing your eyes, having woken up far from where you laid your head the night before. As you wake up, your stomach drops as the realization hits you that the nightmare has happened again- you wake up surrounded by your fellow tributes with all your items in place but you are no longer under the twinkling stars of the grass plains. You’re grouped under the tattered remains of a circus’ big top. A looming presence in the arena you’ve mostly steered clear of.

Something tells you this isn’t another restful day.

Shadows dance along the grimy, ripped fabric walls. Silhouettes of girls with swords, of tributes with tridents, and of limbless children moving with each flicker of light from the small gas lamps dotted around the ring in the middle of the tent. The ground rumbles beneath you as bones poke out of the dirt and clack together. They rattle into place, forming the shape of a single massive beast resembling an elephant.
You’ve watched enough Hunger Games to know what must come next.
