Agnes had spent the better part of her Saturday doing a whole handful of nothing. She’d eaten a light breakfast, just two eggs and a couple of strawberries, and spent the rest of the time doodling in sketchbooks of different elemental pairings. The combination of Earth and Fire signs and the destruction that follows was her main theme of the day. She spent most of the day on the floor of her bedroom. With the window open, the sun rose and found itself resting comfortably high in the sky, beaming its way down onto Agnes back as if to say, I’m here, I reassure you there is truth within your thoughts. The sun held such a special place in Agnes’ mind, body, and soul. The closest star to her, the reason she was able to do the things she did.
Panem, or at least her part of it, was pleasantly warming up and a breeze swept through her log cabin. She cherished the dwelling’s sturdy walls and the way her silky white curtains blew with the wind. A twinge of dread had tainted a perfectly good Saturday, away from the woes of studying and away from the woes of peers, because she had an appointment at the district’s training center quite soon. ‘
Her parents had vowed that, even if she were to be against the games, it wouldn't hurt for her to know a thing about how to fight. Even if it weren't in the context of the Games, Mr. and Mrs. Sweeney thought it was paramount that Agnes learned some sort of combat skills. Now, Agnes definitely agreed to this view albeit her innate feelings of teenage rebellion. It was important to know how to defend yourself, no matter what the situation was. Agnes Sweeney had spent the later part of the previous night and all of the current day dwelling on the day’s events. She'd put on her training outfit, a black, form-fitting turtleneck, and a mini flannel skirt. A bit unconventional, yes, and Agnes was quite aware of it, but it was a half subconscious decision to help remedy the fact she was being forced against her will to actually train for something as boring as the Hunger Games. Although Agnes was from a career district, she had little to no interest in the training opportunities her district had to offer. As an Aquarius, she felt that her sense of freedom was much too important for such mundane things. She was at the training center now, deciding that she would take a different approach today.
This did not mean that her astro-tendencies had lightened at all. Today’s mix was definitely a fiery bunch, which gave Agnes a natural oomph. Her wispy tendencies, which could be seen even in the way she walked about the training room, with her hair bouncing to and fro as if their were some unseen personal breeze, made Agnes aware of the gumption the many Careers of the district had towards this kind of hobby. Swords were being swung, arrows were being shot, laps were being ran… it a separate part, swimming was happening. A quiet place for those that needed to relax or stretch or do anything that may require it, a place for hand to hand combat, learning of different past muttations and natural defences and reactions to a situation like that, and a handful of other things that gave the whole building a loud, aggressive atmosphere. Not only the noise but also the natural stench of sweating teenagers and the heat of human bodies filled the air like armpit pudding.
There was one thing that Agnes had decided to devote her attention on this day. The throwing axes. She’d admired a boy from afar, a Scorpio, who somehow seductively threw axe after axe into a dummy’s head over and over again. Agnes was quite enthralled by such beauty and talent but as soon as she’d gotten acquainted with her own personal set of throwing axes and found a throwing row close to his to “practice” in, it seemed his training had preemptively ended.
His departure made Agnes want to leave and follow right after him, but her natural lean towards obedience kept her feet planted. She’d began to actually become quite interested in the constant motion of the axe- the trajectory of the object to land in just the right spot. In the bright blue-white light of the training center, Agnes seemed mesmerized at the light dancing with the spin of the axe, and, although she naturally felt like it wasn’t meant to happen, she was quite enjoying herself. It seemed like it was some sort of performance to her, and this was a rehearsal. Now, if Agnes were faced with an actual person to put this practice into play, she would cower. But she was always one to make the most out of a situation, and this was no exception.
The cute boy was long gone in her brain. The only thing that existed at this point was a constant, yet temporary, repetition of throwing and collecting axes. Her aim was quite off but she was clinging to it. She did keep a close eye on the time, though, and she’d only about 30 minutes left. She’d decided she would not let the parentals know she had just such a marvelous time trying to land axes in a foam dummy’s head, but she would enjoy it the moment lasted, and see if it was something that happened to align with her future…
However, she was getting a little agitated that she was not taking strides in hitting critical targets. She’d not even realized that she was getting a little too invested, and at the latest complete MISS of her target, she’d exclaimed, “REALLY?” and immediately felt her cheeks flush. Quickly glancing around the room, and although the area was quite loud, it did not stop her from being heard. A feeling of alienation washed over her, and she realized how silly she’d been for getting so invested in such a short amount of time, and was really feeling quite embarrassed about the entire ordeal, blaming all of this, of course, on her Aquarian ways.
