”One, two, three, four…five! He is the fifth, THE FIFTH! Snow will be serving our heads at the victor ball.” Just under an hour until the Capitol’s victor presentation and Josie’s head still sits on his shoulders. Weeks have trotted by since the District Twelve walked from (partly) his arena. So many desirable career bodies to climb over, whose fault of the trio is it that such a disappointing result landed at Snow’s desk? Zaya’s aggressiveness? Bea’s strategy? Josie’s narrative? Well the amateur cannot be blamed, not when he stood in the shadow of such a celebrated veteran like Reine.
Josie dismisses the avox from his apartment, finishing off the rest of his outfit himself. A glittered edition of the many costumes worn in the arena – minus the cowboy hat. The next flock of gamemakers have already been announced, soon he’ll bid farewell to the constant courtesy from others. You will have to work for it now, says the constant reminder from his sister. There is a lacklustre nine to five position available to all gamemakers as soon as their games end. A bet is currently ongoing on how long Josie will keep up with it…
Another lavish ball, a final farewell to having his name followed by cheers but of course it is now shared with Master Thorne. An extravagant welcome announced by Snow himself, of course fully scripted as the old sport is clearly livid. Josie has not yet been blessed with a conversation with the President and he’ll be trying his best to dodge any moment with him tonight.
He swipes two chutes of bubbling gold champagne from a silver tray, a gift for his fist conversation of the night. A game of beating Bea and Zaya on welcoming the victor back to the Capitol. He is careful pushing through the crowd with the two full glasses, plucking the boy from the faces that swarm him. ”Nico, it is great to have you back. Here, you will need a lot of these tonight.” Josie extends a glass to the boy, a slight peace offering for all the trauma that he slightly conducted around Thorne. ”Has the tour been fun so far? I bet the Capitol section is the most exciting part.”
