Her room doesn't feel like a safe space.
Whitney doesn't know what to do with what happened at the dinner party where everyone laid bare the others sins, condemned friends and gave enemies new fodder for their cannons. Whitney had supported Amrin, it was true, but at first Whitney had considered condemning the very same girl, had thought that maybe she didn't deserve to win and that it should be Whitney who told theteam—no, not a team.
This group would never be a team.
Whitney knows her truth, and that she had seriously considered telling Malcolm Nox that her roommate did not deserve the title, and even if she did, she didn't deserve it half as much as some of the other people standing in that room. But Amrin, Ripred, she wasn't half so bad as Coralie, and the moment the redhead had opened her mouth Whitney had known that whatever she said could only be met with anger and vitriol, that it would be cruel and unnecessary, and her ripping apart Amrin had been just that. Perhaps she was right that money could get you places, after all Whitney was a walking reminder of that, but that didn't mean money could buy Coralie this crown.
And she couldn't let her get away with saying otherwise.
It's been well over a day now though, and still neither has said anything to the other, Amrin and Whitney only seeing each other for moments before the other heads to bed. So when Whitney curls up on her bed with a book in hand, she knows it's only a matter of time before Amrin shows up.
And when she does, Whitney almost chickens out.
"Hey," she says quietly though, swallowing her worst instincts that are telling her not to trust Amrin.
They're nonsense, she's sure.
