Juliet always looks like she knows something you don’t. The smirk on her face is perpetual, save for the rare moments where she’s alone in thought. Her lips are wide, and when she smiles, her cheeks dimple. Her grey eyes are framed by thin eyelashes and bear no wrinkles or dark circles. Her nose is straight and flares up at the end. When she was sixteen, she gave herself a septum piercing, although it’s a bit crooked (but she just thinks that gives it character). Her dark brown hair is long and thick, so she pulls it back in a ponytail or two buns when she’s out and about.
Her makeup is always heavy. She wears glittery eyeshadow in black and shades of green. Her eyebrows are filled in dark and end in a sharp point. Her eyeliner, too, is always perfectly sharp. She carves her cheeks out with a deep rose blush and puts a similar colored lipstick on. Sometimes, if the occasion calls for it, she’ll paint her lips red. She dresses to make a statement— bright colors, clashing patterns, clothes lined with rhinestones or plastic spikes. She may not have an eye for fashion trends, but she knows how to make herself stand out.
Juliet lives for the dramatics. Everything has to be a grand deal with her. You notice her immediately when she walks in the room, and she wants you to be sad when she leaves. She also has to be the most interesting person in the room. There’s nothing she loves more than being the center of attention. If she thinks someone is a threat to that, she’ll do whatever she can to push them to the sidelines.
She has no sense of commitment whatsoever. She bounces between friend groups every other month and flirts with whoever she wants to. It’s easy for her to charm people, for them to be distracted by her looks and her sharp tongue. She loves knowing how easily she can worm her way into someone’s heart. The way the relationship progresses from there depends on how she’s feeling based on the day. She has no problem tossing people to the side when she’s bored of them.
She craves control like some tiny tyrant. If you’re hanging out with her, expect her to have every detail of the night planned around what she wants to do. She gets mad when people don’t act the way she wants them to, and no one wants to be around her when things don’t go as planned. Her friends go along with everything just to avoid the fallout. Because she’s used to getting everything she wants, she butts heads with people who don’t bend to her will. Don’t expect to be easily forgiven if you cross her. She’s prepared to hold grudges for the rest of her life.
Juliet’s parents were both Careers who came from rich families. They didn’t have any interest in each other, but their families wanted them to marry, so they did as soon as they turned eighteen. They purchased a lavish home with their inherited money and began their new lives as jewelers. They had been planning to have children eventually, but Juliet came as a surprise. They still loved her, but to the best of their abilities, as it’s hard to love something you don’t want.
She was left in the care of nannies for the first few years of her life. Her parents wanted to focus on work instead of their child. Her first sister, Wren, was born when Juliet was four. Astrid, the youngest, was born two years later. Juliet got along well enough with her sisters growing up, but she was regularly scolded for bossing them around and often made them cry. At school, she was the queen bee, the ruler of the playground. The other kids either loved her or hated her, but she didn’t care. Either way, she was getting the attention she craved.
As she grew into a teenager, her parents became more fed up with her antics and decided they didn’t have time to put up with it. Juliet didn’t know how else to get attention from her parents, so she began to act out even worse. She stayed out late, went to every party she could, and consumed whatever substances were put into her hand. She threw herself into whatever social situations she could. People went along with whatever she wanted to do and she loved it, loved the attention, loved the fact that people actually listened to her for once. She doesn’t know whether the people around her actually like her, but she prefers having control to being loved, anyway.
