Coralee was sitting on the couch in their living room, watching reruns of the Games as she prepares to get ready for her first Reaping. The sound coming out of the screen was not smooth, like when people spoke, but came out in staccato salt and pepper colored bursts. This experience was not a comfortable one for her, but what else is she supposed to do when her chores and homework are already done. She preferred the sound of her father's voice, or even her brother's. Her father's voice came out in vibrant brown hues, and her brother, Kiernan's voice was a teal, loud yet warm at the same time. The tv, and more specifically, the Games, are the static salt and pepper color that she sees when she watched the TV or heard the Reaping through the sound system. It was coming around that time for the 82nd, and she wanted to see previous Games to see if she could try to predict some pattern in the Games. Coralee wished to study them, see if she would be able to guess how this upcoming Games would play out. She was watching the recap of the 75th, the Quell that saw over 50 tributes die for whatever reason they deemed appropriate, she never tried to pretend to understand these kids, she's younger than most of them anyways. She noted that the 80th kept the kids alive and that no one died, hence balancing each other out.
That's when she noticed something that shocked her, she saw on TV a younger version of her dad. Cora knew that she was in a better lot than most in District Ten, but she never realized where it came from. She watched in bewilderment as her father, who was not much older than she is currently, fight his way through frozen tundra. Cora wasn't sure how to feel once the recap was done, all from her father's perspective. She sat there for a while, trying to process what she had just witnessed. Coralee wanted to talk with her dad but didn't know how to do it, should Cora ask him straight up or she should go in a round-about manner. She ended up kind of mixing the two approaches when she went and sat on her father's lap as he was eating dinner.
"Daddy," Cora asked as she stole a bite from his plate, "what is the point of the Games?
