"Our lives are stories,
waiting to be told."
An unexpected visitor. That’s what Plunder Theft was. Dusty figured that, with the temporary fear of being reaped and having someone volunteer in your place, Plunder was probably not in the mindset of wanting to visit Industria Spark. It likely wasn’t a top priority. At least, Dusty had assumed that that was the case.
When Plunder entered the room, there wasn’t a hug between them like there had been between Dusty and her family member who’d come to say goodbye. This was a different sort of situation. She had no idea what Plunder was going to say, either. Was she going to thank her for taking her place? Scold her, perhaps? There was no way to know until words emerged from her lips.
”Industria is your name, right?” Plunder opened with.
Dusty nodded in response to her.
”Well, Industria, I have something for you that you probably noticed was missing at some point,” she explained. ”Think of it as a thank you for volunteering for me. I don’t normally give back the things I take from people, but with what you did, I think you should have it,”
She held out the pearl bracelet that Dusty had been wearing on her way to the reaping, only to notice that it was missing when she got there. She’d realized it had been stolen shortly thereafter, but she never expected to get it back. She was certainly grateful as Plunder gave it to her, though.
”Th- thank you. I didn’t expect this,” Dusty said to Plunder. The bracelet had initially been given to Dusty by her sister, Joule, and she treasured it dearly. Getting it back made her exceedingly happy. Happiness wasn’t something that she expected to feel in the Justice Building, as she’d surely not felt it yet that day throughout saying her goodbyes, and she definitely didn’t feel happy when she’d come to say goodbye to Bolts and to Florence those years prior.
”You’re welcome, kid,” Plunder said. ”You deserve it. Try your best out there.”
After that, Plunder turned and left the room. There was no hug. There wasn’t even a handshake.
It was simply Dusty, standing in the middle of the room, feeling grateful.lyrics: "Sinners" by Lauren Aquilina
