Killian wasn’t someone she had expected to see on reaping day. His...activities usually meant that no one saw him for weeks at a time. Herself included. But she didn’t begrudge him that. What he did was something few people had the means and the will to do. Had her association with him cost her a few years of her life? Yes. But she didn’t blame him for it.

“Likewise, Killian,” she said, fidgeting with her hands. If there was one person whose love for the district was on par with her own or Mayor Vasco, it was Killian. What else could she possibly ask him for? She could see the hurt in his eyes; that the Capitol was taking Kassadra was a loss he must have felt keenly, what with all the time he spent at the orphanage. After all, he’d just come out of the visiting room.

He was a good man.

And those were hard to find.

“My bakery,” she said after a moment. “I’ll need someone to run deliveries. And should the worst come to pass, I’ll need someone to send a basket to the Fel’s and…” Katelyn looked at the ground, her heart going out to the little girl. “Well, I’m sure you know Kassandra better than most.”

She took his hand in hers and looked at him, really looked at him., reading the concern and worry in his eyes. There might have been a little shame in there as well.  “I’m going to do my best for her, alright?” Perhaps he wasn’t a parent like Maya, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t hurting.
