Frenzy holds the helm of captain as far as Orion can see. Bodies bend stained with sweat and all for what? A potential increase to the coefficient of their survival chances? The others can train all they want, adjust every inch of the algorithm as subtly as possible, but still the vast majority will perish. And all the while, Orion sits on the sidelines examining the very equation they continue to try to correct. Every individual a unique factor with their own set of variables, but until the arena can be taken into consideration along with each alliance, then the final result remains clouded in uncertainty.
Orion bites the end of his pencil.
He hates uncertainty.
Flipping through the scribble scratched pages of the notebook within his hands, Orion stares at his systematic series. One after another, name after name, each of his opponents appears and numbers live in multitudes beneath their names. Beyond the walls of the Training Center, Orion knows people do this for a living, calculate survival odds. The numbers are far from reassuring in his case, but still it's something he can easily tether to. Something logical in a Games founded on illogical reasoning. Part of him wishes he could put the pages away, find faith on the wings of blind belief. Yet the stronger and more stubborn part of him clings to his calculations, and to the idea of proper alteration as the only plausible road to potential survival.
Orion sighs at himself.
He might not be out on the training courses bending his body like the others, but here he is trying to do the same thing as them. Trying to live. That's what it all comes down to in the end. Those that want to try to live will do everything they can, even if they don't realize it. Those that don't want to try, will die. Orion knew when he spoke out at the Reaping he was walking into near-certain execution, into the heart of hell for someone like him. But he knows also that it doesn't mean he will just give in. He's here to try, even if that's in ways different to normal. Right now he's alive, and despite the numbers meeting his stare, he's going to try to stay that way.
His pencil scratches in an alteration to his equation. Mental status must be properly considered after all.
