character ideas/concepts: 

1. 16 ! 
2. probably (read: almost surely) a scorpio 
3. has been convinced her entire life that everyone who is not her mother, or one of her mother's 'followers,' is utterly useless and absolutely an enemy. her mother is drawn to power, and anyone who threatens that is The Worst™ and needs to be eliminated.
4. the name vitani in the film comes from the swahili "shetani" meaning demon, and "vita" meaning war, making her name something of a portmanteau meaning "demon of war." from this i'd see to it that valerie has been raised as a soldier. vitani and zira speak to each other like soldier and general, not mother and daughter. she was born for great things, surely, but great things at her mother's behest. great things, of her mother's choosing. she has been trained to be one of her mother most efficient soldiers, to do whatever it takes to keep her mother in power and make sure the business runs smoothly and without a single hitch. from an extremely young age, valerie would have been obedient to her mother's will, and would follow her word as closely as she possibly could. she has an absolutely vicious moral code, but not one built on any standard frame of good and evil, rather one built from her mother's dogma. 
5. she loves her older brother. she loves him to death. she loves him so much that she's ready and willing to take her mother's crown and make sure it never lands on his head. she knows that it upsets him, knows that he would do anything to follow in their mothers footsteps and run the business himself one day, but valerie knows that he would run it into the ground, and knows that if he did that it would ruin him. to see their mother's legacy in ruins, in ashes, that would destroy him. so she'll wear the crown, no matter the cost to their relationship.
6. incredibly aggressive, with a mind like a whip, though she very rarely gets the opportunity to solve problems or handle situations on her own, often left to simply relay the issue and defer to whatever solution her mother comes up with. she is extremely level-headed and can often see all sides of a situation, and is very good at understanding other people motivations. 
7. she loves the gambling ring, and can often be found sneaking through the doors to watch all of the players with their cards and their dice, learning the strategy, learning the people, all their tricks and their ticks. she loves to read others, and when they are betting their fortunes is often prime time viewing.  
8. she has never questioned her mother before, but i think it's definitely a possibility down the line, perhaps if some conflict escalates between the outlanders and another gang. she often attacks without thinking, because that is what her mother would have told her to do, but given her level-headed and observant nature, there's a chance that she would choose the side of peace rather than anger if told to stop and just think. does she want to wear the crown? is she so blood thirsty? does she hunger for power, as her mother does, or does she only fight for it because she knows it's what zira wants? i don't think she hungers for this, but i don't know if she'll realize that.
