Kit smiles despite himself. Jacob is almost faster at him than signing, he's probably been speaking in sign longer than him too. He thinks back to a week ago when Jacob introduced himself to him through sign and Kit almost cried in relief. Since then, they'd spent most of their time together. Kit could read lips well enough, but not if people were speaking fast or hiding their mouths and he didn't expect anyone to want to ally with a deaf kid anyway. Jacob had wanted to though, he'd been the one to ask Kit. It had made a little bit more sense when he'd told Kit that he had a deaf sibling.

Whatever his reasons, Kit was grateful. He didn't think he would have even made it past this morning without the other boy.

Kit nods in agreement, hands mimicking the other boy to form the word .-together-. as well. It's an odd sort of promise, Kit has no intention of letting Jacob die for him at least. It's not that Kit wants to die by any means, he's just fairly certain he won't get very far thanks to his deafness and well, his generally small stature and lack of strength. His odds are something like a million to one at least.

.-Come and sit, ok?-. he says, flashing the boy a thumbs up before leading him over to a wooden box. Jacob's obvious pain worried him. He hadn't been able to hear anything bad and his attention had kind of been split between searching for useful things to pick up and trying to dodge attacks. He hoped that the other boy didn't have any broken bones but now would be a good time to check.

Kit looked around for anything to help him after leaving Jacob sat on a crate and found a small roll of bandages. "Eureka!" he said, voice still somehow charming but off sounding at the same time. He could no longer hear how the word was supposed to come out and a strange, slurred accent was forming over time.

.-I'm going to wrap your knee-. he signed at Jacob and knelt in front of him, gesturing for him to pull his pant leg up.

The plaster placed across his cheek is so unexpected that Kit laughs out loud, big and boisterous. Hs laugh is thunderous and light all at once, filling up the space of the cargo hold. It becomes nearly hysterical in moments as he sits back and puts a hand to the new plaster on his cheek. The boy cannot hear his own sound and in this moment he's forgotten that volume control is important for not being found by other tributes.

But they kind of left the party early anyway, when they limped away down the stairs there were still tributes fighting. They have the cargo hold to themselves for the moment and despite all of the fear and worry that they feel, they can at least have a moment like this, just the two of them in the bowels of this strange place. .-You shouldn't waste that on my bruises-. he signs with a pout. The comment is meant to chastise but Jacob had managed to cheer him up and Kit was thankful.

He leaves the plaster where it is and stands up, looking around. The room is larger than he thought at first and there seems to be may wooden crates around, most likely filled with useful things. .-Rest your knee for a moment-. he signs, finger tapping his left wrist. "Then we can continue," he says, often using half sign and half his voice, despite being shy about it in some ways. He knows that he no longer sounds 'normal'.

But with Jacob, he doesn't feel so ashamed. Perhaps it's because he doesn't know what Kit did, something he's determined to keep that way.

Kit leaves Jacob to rest and decides to rifle through a couple of the wooden crates. Cracking one open doesn't take too much effort and there's a whole myriad of things inside to go through. He knows it's up to him to figure out how to stay safe tonight too, Jacob is in no shape to be making the area safe and Kit's always had a knack for these kinds of things.

His gaze lands on a corner of the box and a grin lights up his face. Some fairly simple items lay there, this place must have been a maintenance room or something. He picks up a box of matches and some batteries amongst some other items.

Kit refuses to be a useless nuisance for Jacob these games. No matter what the other boy says, he knows that he's more of a liability than a helping hand. Not today at least. He's going to make Jacob glad to have allied with him. He fills his arms with doubles of the same things he's just picked up as well as a strange thing wrapped in foil called a meal pack. The food is all well and good but they're definitely going to need water soon too.

Arriving back to way Jacob is lying still, he drops a small pile of scavenged items beside him. .-Eat up-. he signs with a proud grin.
