Day Seven Anthem

The anthem tonight is different; it starts with an advertisement: crackling and grainy, but in a good enough quality to see. A smartly-dressed spokesperson walks through a pristine ship. She looks to her left, to billowing homes and families lounging on terraces. She looks to her right, to scientists creating vast towers of technology. She looks below, at the stock of supplies that will last for nearly a century. Then, she looks above: at a lightless sky, a planet drifting out of view.

"A new life, Aeternum," she says, as the shot wraps up and the name of the ship is finally revealed.

Now free to explore to your heart's content, maybe you decide to stay right where you are. In the end, does it matter what turns you make in the maze? Every road leads to the same destination.

But maybe you do venture into the night, towards old haunts and new stories. The hallways grow colder with each step that you take, cleaner robots slip by you as they rush to ensure the floors will not ice over. Somewhere ahead lies the remnants of footsteps, with wilted flowers whose roots only reach metal. Progs chatter, soft quartets humming as the night goes on.

Like knights, you move across the chess board. And when you finally meet your opponent, the progs begin to scream.
