Joule Spark
district three | age twenty-one | female
She was twelve when Bolts died, and now, in the years that have passed, she's lost Florence and Industria, too. She was seventeen for Florence's death, and twenty for Industria's. Each time someone in her family died, it's crushed her more and more, starting with her father when she was just a young girl. Nowadays, Joule is running out of ways to cope. She and Cordelia are the ones keeping the family afloat, despite their mother being in the position of District Three's mayor as of the 80th election. Cal and Joseph are sometimes asked to help, too, but Joule tries to keep things in order the best she can without bothering them.
She's struggled with the same deaths that they have, so she knows how difficult it is to try to function and not break down at the same time. Unfortunately, that's exactly what Joule has to do now. Every day is difficult to get through. She knows she can't just give up, though. It's her job to protect Cal, Joseph and Cordelia so that she doesn't lose them like they lost Bolts, Florence and Industria. She has to take care of them, and let them know that it's all going to be alright, even though she can't actually guarantee them that.
Three of her siblings are gone, and three of her siblings remain. Now, Joule tries to find new ways to deal with the grief without letting her remaining siblings see how much it hurts her and how difficult it is. She's been absorbed into the world of reading and writing in the past several years. Reading and writing stories with happy endings, particularly romance stories, distract her from the real world, as they're what she really wants her life to be like. She wants a husband and children. She wants to have a perfect, happy little family.
In Panem, however, nothing can be perfect. Sure, if she had children, the first eleven years of their lives would be relatively safe. They'd start to run the risk of being reaped come their twelfth year of life, though. Could she handle that risk to potentially have a happy family if her children remained lucky enough not to go into the Games? She wanted to think so.
So many things in this world seemed unattainable, but Joule was a determined and devoted individual when it came to the things she wanted. Much like her mother who won the position of mayor in District Three during the 80th election, Joule was someone who set goals for herself. When she set these goals, it was few and far between for her not to achieve them. In school, she was always one of the smartest kids in class. Now, she continues to have useful knowledge and a lot of it.
The curiosity that Joule had at a young age has carried over into adulthood, but perhaps with a little more caution. She's careful about the questions she asks and what she says to people out in public. This is because she knows that her every word is being listened to and her every actions being watched. Sometimes, she has to help her sister Cal work on these things, as Cal isn't as good at making sure she's cautious with her actions and words when she's not at home and has to be careful. Joule knows how difficult it can be to control oneself around those who bother her, too, though, as she's always had a bit of a temper herself. SHe's just gotten a little bit better about who she lets it out around over the years.
With her coppery red hair and her eyes that have gone from a lighter blue to a greenish brown color over the years, Joule resembles the rest of her family well. She was of an average height when she was young, (although many of her siblings have gotten the shorter genes in the family) but as she got older, started to take after her father and his height. She always liked being told that she resembled her father, as she missed him more and more as the years went on. The hair color she has comes from her mother, and her current eye color more from her father. She's not sure when her eyes changed from looking more liker her mother's to more like her father's, but that seems to be how things ended up developing over the years.
Joule is proud to look like a typical Spark woman. She's proud of her family. Even though the Capitol treats them like cattle every so often, killing them off when they hunger for more meat, there's a fighting spirit within them that has never completely faded. They didn't have a victor in their family, but they still had fighters, and most importantly, they all loved one another. Joule just hopes that she never loses anyone else, and that she can start living a happier life.
