Annie made it very clear that she had no intention of making a big song and dance of the new victor coming to town.
However, that didn’t mean the rest of four didn’t want to do so, and of course, she was only a microcosm when it came to what goes on here. She wasn’t the mayor, so she didn’t have too much of a say, even if she was four’s darling. Still, she could at least suggest what would happen at the festivities.
She listened to the speech given by Kassandra Nerys as she barely had even stepped off the platform of the train station. The first thing that Annie had noticed was that she was young, younger than any of the most recent victors save for Stella.
She still hadn’t met the girl who won the 78th, and she wondered if she ever was going too. It wasn’t that big of a deal, seeing as Annie lived a very busy life of moping and misery. She didn’t have time to really branch out and see everyone like the world had expected her too.
Flashbacks had popped through her head of lasts years victory tour, when she had met Nico Thorne for the first time. It took a hot second for them to warm up to each other, seeing as Nico had gone straight to accusing her of being the lucky one out of all of them.
Annie was, and always would be, quick to shut the shit down. She would not let anyone mute her experience in the arena, and as much as some of the victors thought she got lucky, she still had to kill in order to get the crown. She didn’t know that the captiol would give them the outcome she got out of it, and it was wrong for others to assume that she had a part in that.
But once that was all out of the way, she could honestly say that she did enjoy her time with Nico. She wasn’t sure how he had felt about the entire thing, but that wasn’t important to her.
She just had to make sure that she felt good about it.
And so time passed and the dinner party had already gone into full swing. Annie worked hard to keep her distance, waiting for the right time to talk to Kassandra when there weren’t many prying eyes. Annie made sure that this time the party was on the beach itself, because that the most fitting place for any sort of soiree that four had to offer.
Most of the people had left for the night, and Annie stuck around because she truly enjoyed watching the sea at night. She was quick to stoke a fire in the middle of the pit that she had put in so she could enjoy a cozy fire near the water. Sometimes she would come out here with a book or two and just lose herself in words. Sometime she would bring Wander or Angel out here to just enjoy some quality time together, and sometimes she would sit and stare out into the ocean as the sounds of the waves crashing against the earth took her mind off whatever was on her mind.
She turned around, realizing that Kassandra was still around, and she couldn’t help but peer back and smile as she sat close to the fire, the sand enveloping her legs as dug them lightly into it.
She decided to wait for Kassandra to come to her. After all, Annie wasn’t even sure what to say. She hoped that the new victor would have questions, or even grievances. Annie would try to answer or listen to them all.
It was the least she could do.[ DARS ]
