SCORPION PRAXIS LATCH & ELMO LATCH
Every anniversary of the First Games - which is to say, every Games - Capitolites competed to host a celebration to end all celebrations. This being the 20th Games marked a truly special occasion. Against the odds, they had lived two entire decades past their shared victory, despite the brutality they had faced in the arena, and the strange fame they had engendered since.
At least you have each other, another Victor had snapped one day. Scorpion and Elmo had simply looked at one another with a shrug. Of course they had each other. What other way could it possibly be?
"Baby?" She asked, sing-song, from the District Ten apartments in the Training Center. They'd remodeled the floor just last year to be in the current fashion. What had been a tiny bathroom was now a palatial sprawl of white, grey and marble. She loved it, and finally she didn't hate herself for indulging in their shared wealth.
She stood gracefully up from the boudoir, caught her husband's eye, and then turned slowly.
"Always black," he teased.
"It's classic. Just like us. And I'm not wearing all black," she promised with a wink. "We're going to be late." Which was entirely her fault. She grinned wickedly, wrapped both arms around him, and cursed the clocks.
Later, at a party hosted by a Capitolite at the sprawling mansion, Scorpion and Elmo walked arm in arm. They made the usual small talk, smiled for selfies, shrugged when the glamorous attendees asked them about the other victors. She knew things about each of them - things she shouldn't know, but her instincts refused to die - but she was not friendly with them. "Sorry we can't be of more help," she purred.
The Capitolite sight, ruffling a tuft of lace around her neck. "You two have always only had eyes for each other. So romantic! But tell me: don't you want another baby? You aren't getting any younger."
Scorpion laughed heartily even as she squeezed Elmo's side. "Maybe someday."
She lied.
Then let her dark hair fall over one shoulder as she looked up at her husband. "I think it's time you spun me 'round the dance floor, don't you?"
