SAFINA ROY
Female, Age 18
District 3
Safina stifled a yawn and rubbed her heavy-lidded brown eyes. She was tired, but she knew she couldn't sleep until she was done. It was a few hours still before her full lips parted into a wide, toothy smile and the frown turned into joy as she jumped to work, making adjustments here and there on the circuit board quickly and expertly.
There, she was done. Eagerly she stood up from the table, although her short height made it look as if she hadn't moved at all, and ran to the computer screen nearby to place the circuit board back in its place and turned the device on. As it flickered to life she breathed a satisfied sigh. It was fixed. Her job was done.
Soon she was old enough to begin working with her family, inventing and creating various technological products for the Capitol. She enjoyed it for the most part, although she often missed the innocent experimentation of her youth. Safina preferred to pioneer her own ideas to following the orders of others. She'd dream up brilliant solutions to the problems posed with current outdated technologies, only to have her ideas stifled by stronger voices wishing to stick with old ideas. It was frustrating, having a strong voice that fell way too often on deaf ears. But she was strong-willed and stubborn, and astute when it came to pushing elements of her own ideas into designs. And it was her idea that got the circuit board fixed when so many others had failed.
While working with technology took up most of her life, it wasn't the sole essence of who she was. She was well-liked and respected by most of the people who knew her. She was a warm presence in any room she entered, someone that if you didn't already know her, you'd wish you did. Perhaps it was due in some part to her approachable demeanour; she always had a kind word for everyone she met. Or perhaps it was due to her ability to see the world through rose-coloured glasses when reality seemed most determined to take them off her face and smash them into a thousand tiny pieces.
Of Safina's 5 siblings, Emon was the one that was most likely to carry on the Roy family legacy. Already 20 years old and therefore no longer eligible for the Reaping, he had dedicated the better part of his childhood learning everything there was to know about circuitry and computer programming and engineering. On top of that, he had developed a fondness for the Capitol after years fixing things for them. He was the poster-child for the type of worker that the Capitol would want from the Districts. So long as he could be controlled, that is.
Safina was next in her family's good graces; so close to no longer being reaping age and with a passion and skill for invention, she could give Emon a run for his money at carrying on the family legacy. This was an annoyance for her twin, Sadiya. If you didn't know the pair of them beforehand, you'd think them to be the same person. They were absolutely identical in looks; same height, same heavy-lidded eyes, same toothy smile. But once you tried to engage with them the difference was night and day; Safina radiated light and warmth, while Sadiya was much more cold and distant. She was decent with technology, but didn't have the same skills and passion as her twin. A fact that she was reminded of on a consistent basis by their parents.
Safina had three younger siblings as well, although none of them were particularly interested in technology; Dina was much more concerned with the politics and drama that being sixteen brings with it. Her charisma and good looks made her pretty popular, and she was more concerned about her social capital than giving any thought to learning binary. Riyaad also had no care for the family's business. He was only 14 years old, but he was rebellious in nature and when his parents rose to a status that rubbed shoulders with some Capitolites he became staunchly anti-Capitol. He and Emon did not get along with each other in the slightest, two polar opposites in every imaginable way. But whenever Tevin was around, any fighting that happened between any of the other siblings didn't last long. At thirteen Tevin was the youngest of the siblings, and universally liked by all of them. He was incredibly patient and diplomatic for his age. He knew how to resolve the problems of the others, and he was always someone to be counted on to listen to Safina's issues with no judgement.
As Safina thought about her family and how they'd react in the morning to her fixing the circuit board, she didn't notice herself drift into sleep in the chair she was sitting in as her thoughts blended in seamlessly with dreams of future inventions waiting to be built, and the hope for another challenge waiting for her when she next opened her eyes.

APPEARANCE:
Safina leaned over a circuit board, her brow furrowed in frustration, her long, wavy black hair falling down loosely around her face. She sighs and brushes her hair behind her ears to keep it out of the way. It was getting late; she had been working on repairing the circuit board all day, not noticing the time go by. Now she sat there, the light of day long gone leaving only a harsh fluorescent light bouncing off her brown skin and the desk she was working at.

PERSONALITY:
It had been a tougher project than she had anticipated, but Safina knew she could do it. Safina always loved technology; the electronic sounds, the mess of pieces that all come together to make something incredible. Her parents had wasted no time letting her experiment with inventing things and developing her technological skills. Soon she was old enough to begin working with her family, inventing and creating various technological products for the Capitol. HISTORY:
And of course, some of the respect Safina got from people had to do with being a member of the Roy family. They weren't a powerful family, but they were well known for their technological prowess in a district that prides themselves on being tech-savvy. Both of Safina's parents were in high positions, working directly with the Capitol on ways to improve infrastructure around Panem. Their relentless ambition had left them with a good amount of money and very little time. They were strict with their children too; they wanted them to follow in their footsteps and carry on the family legacy once they can no longer work.Of Safina's 5 siblings, Emon was the one that was most likely to carry on the Roy family legacy. Already 20 years old and therefore no longer eligible for the Reaping, he had dedicated the better part of his childhood learning everything there was to know about circuitry and computer programming and engineering.
