Alarm Owls (Throughout)
A blend of different owl species that, once it sees someone, will give a mournful, haunting hoot every five seconds. It follows the person around and hoots, while more alarm owls flock to the area, and all begin to hoot. They don't actually attack, but they can lead other predators to the area. These were initially developed to find rebel spies, soldiers, and the like and trail them until the owls made enough racket for them to be found. Doesn't attack, instead makes a loud noise allowing other tributes to locate you (i.e. move to your area) the next day. The number of alarm screeches (in place of attacks) they're able to do increases the distance at which other tributes can hear you. ( 1 = tributes in your area can follow you; 2 = tributes in adjacent areas can also find you; 3 = tributes in adjacent areas or in areas that are adjacent to adjacent areas; etc)
(Not poisonous. Not edible. 15 HP. Attacks with N/A)
Croakers (Riverbank)
Only incidentally lethal, Croakers are bipedal frogs that really, really want to be your friend. They have no history of attacking people, but there are more and more cases of accidental exposure to the toxic acid they perspire through glands on their backs as a defense mechanism. There are forms of Croaker acid in a couple new street drugs around the Capitol, but trying to ingest any part of one from the arena would have some pretty dire- potentially lethal- consequences.
(Not poisonous. Not edible. 7 HP. Attacks using Fire/Acid Roll)
Dante's Ivy (Deciduous Forest, Thread Tangles)
Loosely based upon Devil's Snare from Harry Potter, this fast-growing plant has evolved in such a way that has made it carnivorous, meaning that, should a person accidentally step over one of its waiting vines, the violence that ensues won't be pretty.
(Not poisonous. Not edible. 30 HP. Attacks using whip)
Duowolf (Throughout)
The two heads of this creature were designed to represent comedy and tragedy. On one side, with red eyes, is a vengeful head hardwired to kill. To take. To hurt. To consume. On the other side, with yellow eyes, is a head that is just happy to be along for the ride. Yellow eyes is not so much into killing for sport as it is killing for a meal. Having these two vastly different personalities sharing one body can sometimes confuse them and thus gives their prey time to run or fight.
(Not poisonous. Not edible. 25 HP. Attacks using knife x2)
Dream Spore (Deciduous Forest, Riverbank, Thread Tangles)
Originally used as a hallucinogen, dream spore is said to bring all of a person's wildest fantasies to life while they are under its spell. It was highly sought after by the poor man, who wanted nothing more than an escape from mundane every-day life, but it was soon discovered that the visions in which a person saw reflected entirely upon their state of mind. If a person was under stress, their dream-visions were more nightmarish. If a person were to incidentally ingest dream spore in, say, an arena, well...
(Poisonous. Not edible. N/A HP. Causes hallucinations / randomized rolls)
Goldbat (Throughout)
These mutts were created with a certain gamemaker with a taste of the finer things and the scarier things in life in mind. They're easily half the size of an adult human, with a wingspan so wide their arms and wings drag at their feet when they walk, which is not often. Their scales are armored- made completely of gold, making it considerably harder to kill them. Ultimately, the goldbats kill by draining their victims of blood. But their typical targets are small rodents, they only hunt at night, and they are actually quite afraid of humans, making them noticeably fickle when fighting against them.
(Not poisonous. Edible. 15 HP. Attacks using knife)
Hellhounds (Throughout)
Though they’re called hounds, these nasty little creations aren’t just canine. They were created for one purpose- to shred- and the jaws are all alligator, with sharp teeth and the muscles to slam their jaws closed on a piece of prey and toss it around until enough pieces fly off to kill it. The name did come from somewhere, though, and the majority of this mutt is in fact canine in origin. The creature looks like a monstrous wolf- strong fighter, enduring runner, and so dark an earthy green as to appear black. Just to add to the disturbing color factors, the eyes are more vein than sclera, turning them red. (That, like the green tinge to their fur, was actually a defect caused by trying to use such specialized alligator cells; it was originally going to be bred out, but enticed such fear in the Hounds’ prey that it quickly came to be regarded as useful.) The ears are long at birth and need to be cropped to keep from flopping dangerously close to the teeth; that trait is from the bloodhound genetics that allow the Hounds to track their prey even when it seems impossible to do so.
(Not poisonous. Not edible. 35 HP. Attacks using knife)
Hollows (Abandoned Town, Thread Tangles)
These children are yet another capitol mistake. They are modeled after a child who was killed long ago during a terror attack on the capital, while wearing a gas mask. The Capitol medics tried to rescue the child with un-tested nanotechnology, but it could not save them. It turned them into a monster- or so the story goes. Truth be told, these ‘children’ are mere robots donned with a gas mask that were created to coerce and frighten rebels during the Dark Days, luring unsuspecting Rebels by crying and asking “Are you my mummy???”. It would not take long before they would begin attacking the rebels with whatever weapon they could lay their hands on. In this arena, though, some of the empty children look oddly...familiar... despite having gas masks for faces.
(Not poisonous. Not edible. 15 HP. Attacks using whatever weapon they have)
Kodoma (Abandoned Town, Thread Tangles)
If one did not know better, they would think the Kodoma a ghost. The creature moves in absolute silence, with a body that looks somewhat similar to a human's in that it stands upright and have two arms and two legs. The similarities stop there, though, for this particular mutt has a wide, round abdomen, no fingers or toes, and an oval head with two dark eyes and an equally dark mouth, so that the three features can barely be distinguished from each other. The rest of its body is opalescent, smooth, and free of even the slightest feature, and it's tiny, maybe a foot and a half tall at most. The Kodama are generally a puzzling creature. Unlike most mutts, they were created to cheer up people in the Capitol who were old, sick, or depressed, meant to be a kind of therapy. Their behavior didn't exactly go as planned, though - the creatures would often just stand there, making an occasional call that sounded high pitched and distant. They amused patients, however, and were therefore kept. In the Arena, they have been known to be actually helpful. They travel in packs and often do little more than watch tributes with their wide eyes and bring them food. Still, their presence has been known to be greatly calming to many, even the unlucky teenagers slated for almost certain death.
(Not poisonous. Not edible. N/A HP. Attacks using N/A)
Lightning Bugs (Deciduous Forest, Thread Tangles, Vegetable Harvest)
Created to be akin to a tiny little generator, the lightning bug made promises of virtually free electricity, as they conduct it and need it to live. There were, of course, some drawbacks, such as people not being comfortable putting bugs in their walls, but the biggest concern came from the lightning bug chewing through electrical wiring and doing irreparable damage. Not to mention, the typical low hum of a lightning bug is little more than a static shock. But one that is charged can do some real damage.
(Not poisonous. Not edible. 5 HP. Attacks using knife)
Macromantula (Throughout)
The intent was to create a larger species of spider, one that would spin thicker, stronger silk that could be used by the Capitol for various purposes. Capitol scientists were able to achieve this with the genes of a normal tarantula and some growth hormone; however, rather than the house cat-sized spider they’d been aiming for, they’d ended up with a massive brute of an arachnid, as tall as a small elephant with a legspan of over ten feet. These beasts were untamable; they would encase their caregivers in thick webs of silk, then inject their lethal poison into their bloodstream, killing them within the hour. After seeing how serious the problem was, the Capitolites decided that these creations could not be allowed to live; they managed to kill most, but some of the Macromantulas escaped into the wild, and continue to multiply deep within the darkest forests of Panem.
(Poisonous. Not edible. 30 HP. Attacks using knife)
Plagas (Throughout)
Never in a person's lifetime will they see just one Plaga, and if they do they should run while they can, because the others are not far behind. These birds are not venomous, exactly, but their rancid saliva could easily cause infection and if a person is bitten by one, they are said to feel "zombie-like" for the following day or so. Most common side effects from a few bites includes sluggishness, irritability, and a seemingly insatiable hunger for meat. But these people are the lucky ones, as most people who wander into a plague of plagas don't find their way back out. It is said that plagas are the evolved form of a certain species of ravens, who fed on the remains of komodo dragon prey, as well as komodo dragons themselves. Hollow eyes the color of milk, and unkempt black feathers, they appear as something from a cheesy scary movie brought to life, often taking shelter in dead trees, and having the ability to fly even in bad weather. They were brought the Panem before it was called Panem, and though they are still relatively unheard of, their numbers multiply by the dozens every day in the wilds of the country.
(Poisonous. Not edible. 10 HP. Attacks using knife [talons] and spiked blunt [beak])
Porcelion (Throughout)
Porcelions, with their docile nature, are quite the stunning sight to behold. A wonder of science, there is no easy explanation for how these lion-shaped creatures are able to move. They are made entirely of porcelain, with sharpened teeth and a jaw on hinges. It is said they were once designed to carry precious jewels and documents from the Capitol elite; a beautiful case for beautiful things. And though they are completely friendly, porcelions were created to attack any who dared to find out what they held within their hollow bodies.
(Not poisonous. Not edible. 10 HP. Attacks using knife. May contain goodies.)
Pixie Wasps (Throughout)
Pixie wasps, roughly the size of a human hand, are experts at camouflage. Disguising themselves as large blue flowers, it's horrifyingly easy to walk into what one might think is a stunning field only to find out that you've made a terrible, and potentially fatal, mistake. Besides their alarming size, pixie wasps have reinforced bird beaks that can deliver a vicious bite.
(Not poisonous. Not edible. 10 HP. Attacks using knife.)
Teddy Bears (Abandoned Town, Cornucopia)
What would be cuter than real live teddy bears, just like sweet little puppy dogs to greet you at the door? Hoping to breed the perfect little pet with just the right amount of "exotic," scientists worked hard to bring bears down to a more manageable size, and eventually succeeded. These animals look perpetually baby-like, with big, round eyes and floppy paws. They even smell like fresh cream. However, no matter how small and cute they got, these animals didn't lose their killer instincts, and were deemed unfit as house pets as seemed to have an appetite for human flesh and the need to use their handlers as scratching posts. The funding for these creatures was eventually cut off, and the remaining specimens were reportedly euthanized.
(Not poisonous. Edible. 15 HP. Attacks using knife.)
The Unsaid (Thread Tangles, Deciduous Forest, Old Mill, Vegetable Harvest)
The Unsaid is said to be a manifestation of a person's secrets when they die; there are children's stories throughout Panem about them. Supposedly, when a person dies, their secrets form the Unsaid so that the person's soul can start fresh in the afterlife. To see an Unsaid, they say, is a grim prophecy that a person has a very big secret.
Whether or not this is true, there are some qualities of the Unsaid that you cannot deny: their obvious similarities to their distant equine cousins, the black, leathery skin that seems to be stretched over little more than frail bone, the wings that can span up to fifteen feet on the biggest of them. Their hooves end at a sharp point, jagged as a broken branch and making each set of prints distinguishable from the next. Fables aside, these creatures could pull the secrets out of even the most unwilling host.
(Not poisonous. Not edible. 35 HP. Attacks using knife [hooves] and spiked blunt [tail])MUTT CONTEST WINNERS
Appara (Throughout)
There's a strange luminescence in the dark. it moves as if it is the wind and the drafts themselves, and dances as the lights of a carousel would. the appara's ghastly, phantasmagorical forms made the Capitol quite astir, with demands for the creatures rising and the presence of their eerie glow alive in most capitolites' windows. they were a wonder for the eyes, and a warmth to the skin. But, all warm things increase the risk of fire, of burning. when the apparas were left to roam the empty halls of capitolites who considered homes as unfashionable structures and rarely resided there, their soft flames would tease the curtains and the carpets. they danced across the bed sheets until everything was ablaze. after the fires, the apparas were deactivated, with their hollow shells locked somewhere safe. now, they navigate about the arena and its grooves of trees, responsible for casting the sinister shadows most mistake for beasts.
(Not poisonous. Not edible. N/A HP. Attacks N/A)

Corcupine (Vegetable Harvest, Cornucopia, Old Mill)
A birth of excess and ”What if we tried it?” scientific ponderings, this muttation is a genetic variant of the Porcupine. Although it contains the same sharp quills for defense, it was bred for the sake of Capitolite awe and wonder. Much friendlier and less defensive than its Porcupine counterpart, its quills emit a natural oil that resembles the wick of a candle. When trained to do so -- or under intense stress -- the Corcupine’s quills will emit another chemical that causes the ends to spontaneously combust, remaining aflame for light, better vision, and defense. Though the creature is friendly enough, it will shoot its flaming quills at those who put it under great stress. Capitolies often use these creatures as fun decoration and lighting for parties, dances, and blowing out their quills for birthday wishes.
(Not poisonous. Edible. 12 HP. Attacks using flaming arrow [fire quills])

Trevenant (Deciduous Forest, Thread Tangles)
The Trevenant were initially created to survey and guard the open woods between the Districts of Panem. They would make ghostly sounds to deter people from entering the forest, and blended in well with the regular trees around them, so no one really knew that they were there until it was too late. This became a problem, however, as the Capitol didn't like that the Trevenant were killing those that tried to escape the Districts rather than the Capitol being able to decide what to do with the people on a case by case basis (turning them into avoxes, executing them themselves, etc). Therefore, the Trevenant were removed from the woods around the Districts (at least, those that the Capitol could locate, were) and most were destroyed. A few were kept around, however, just in case another use was found for them in the future.
(Not poisonous. Not edible. 25 HP. Attacks using spear [tree limbs])
