It is just me.
Silence has been a part of all my evenings but the assuring sound of another’s breathe has been enough to send me to my sleep. Now it has gone. Five breathes has been swiped away for me to be here. A whole week and each pillar I have hidden behind has tumbled. I guess I can say the plan has worked. From day one I have been treading in their shadows. Now they are gone.
Now here comes the guilty conscience.
The consequences of my cunning strategy. A success to drag me through a week but it has not gone as far as the end game. Now that Sapphire is dead, it is game over. It should have just been the Rhodes, the Three could have easily toppled but fucking shitty fate had to take away my fighter. What do I do now?
Frost is already beginning to settle on the fibres of my cloak, but the sky threatens to pour its blizzard down on me. Maybe those five lives will be wasted tonight as I freeze to the bank of the river. The only enemy that persuaded me to not take that life on the streets, the climate is no easy battle to face. I could waste the tar and warm myself but after the fire wielding events of today, it is clearly the way to go if Sapphire fell to a weakling like Three.
There really is no plan for me now but to just survive. Seven are left wandering this arena, just two more than the number that have died to get me here. But it only takes one to kill me.
I make it necessary for me to watch the anthem in the sky, to see what predators are lurking. The three career girls. Sapphire’s demented district partner. Somehow handless still walks and there are the two boys that killed Sapphire yesterday. Honestly, they are all fucking terrifying.
As soon as the snow begins to fall, I contemplate letting it bury me by the river shore. I can just lay here like I am, flat on the cold rubble, maybe the slight waves will sweep me away. Drowning or hypothermia, I wonder if either is quicker than being stabbed to death. Ah, lets just at least fucking try. I push myself to my feet, hauling my bag of gold over my shoulder and dragging the sword along with me.
I carry a sword but now I have no shield. I really need to start using this properly.
I took the lead on the first day with my fresh-faced career boys and the ever-strong Sapphire. A battle woman, the two soldiers and the bag of bones that they dragged along with them. Each day went on I ended up behind, following whoever dared venture to the next environment. Now it is all up to me, back to being the free-agent that I always dreamed to be.
Aimless wandering will take me nowhere, probably to a trap or a hole in the floorboards like on the first day.
Although it takes me to somewhere new, a foreign terrain to take my last stand. I can really compliment the gamemakers on their efforts, even amongst the dusting of snow the dead landscape looks like a welcome resting ground. Of course, the most tattered part of the arena would be the place where my blood will run dry.
Now to see who will be the one doing the deed.
I let the figure walk to me, dropping my bag to the side and raising my sword as I wait for them to come into view. I beg it is the Ten or the Three, someone on my own level…oh fucking Ripred.
”Oh man, why does it have to be you? No you are not having my organs.” I step closer to Vargen, shaking my head as we finally meet within inches of each other. All I can do is laugh, this will either be some long-winded exchange of dramatic words or he will kindly put me to sleep within an instant. ”It is not fair that you outlived Sapphire, I am sure Seven will have been cheering her on over you.”
