The museum became a regular haunt for Ridley.
If she went late enough at night there was no one around to pester her or stare. It was a welcome escape from her family, who seemed willing to tear apart each other and her and just about anything else that came too close to their claws. The soft lights and echoing voices of the holograms made far better company. Sometimes she would talk to them. Most of the time she just stood and let them talk to her.
The evening that she asked to meet Bette was the day a new addition was made. Before she'd been reaped she would have avoided interaction with something that carried so much emotional baggage, but the Arena had taught her the nature of monsters - even if you hid yourself from them, they always found you. It was better to face them head on. So when she arrived, she made her way immediately to the brand new projector and turned it on. There was a quiet whirring noise, a glow that flickered like lightning, and then a familiar figure faded into focus in the space before her.
"My name is Torren Jaroux, tribute of the 83rd Hunger Games." A pause, before a gaze that was both familiar and foreign locked onto her. "Hello, Ridley."
She didn't respond. She simply watched him, her features expressionless and unfaltering. After a moment, keeping her eyes trained on his face, she lowered herself to the floor and rested her arms loosely on her knees. He remained as still and silent as she was, waiting for some sort of cue to spur on his programming, so they stayed staring at each other in the artificial twilight for what felt like an eternity.
And she was angry. She was so damn angry it hurt.
She didn't even look away when she heard Bette's footsteps approaching. Instead she simply shifted in acknowledgement of the new presence, her shoulders tensing slightly, before speaking in a tone that was stubbornly free of remorse.
"I sent Minerva Hale my severed hand."
