Helios | District Twelve {FIN} CB

When I woke up on that cold winter morning to a knock at the door, I knew something was wrong. Dawn hadn’t come home the night before, and if it were her, she wouldn’t have knocked. She was my sister. She lived here. She would’ve just come in.

My footsteps were heavy on the hardwood floor as I rushed to see who was there. Opening the door, the chilly morning air from outside blew in, a few flurries of snow among it, and I saw the man, all dressed in white- Peacekeeper attire. His face was one I’d never forget, as he was the one who delivered the news to me. He’d removed his helmet when I opened the door, so I knew that he had something important to tell me.

“Helios?” He asked. I nodded. That was when I heard the news. Dawn was dead. We had no parents to tell, so they came to me. Dawn and I were adopted by Mom and Dad at a young age, but they were both dead now, ever since the accident a few years back, so it was just she and I left in our little family. Now, without her, I was alone. I already sensed that dreadfully lonely feeling creeping in. I felt like my heart shattered into pieces that moment. The feeling of pain that surfaced in me then has never truly gone away. What made it worse?

I never saw her body.
