Nobody expected the privileged girl to be miserable.

Julie had grown up with everything; a beautiful home, loving parents, endless wealth, anything she could've asked for. If little Jules wanted a puppy, there was no debate. If she wanted a new dress, it would be on her rack the next day. If she asked for a birthday party, the guest list would be massive. Julie had the type of childhood everybody dreamed of. Everything was handed to her on a silver platter - there was never a concern about starving, about the lights going off. Life was easy. One should expect a child in this environment to flourish, and they were right. Julie was a star pupil - excellent marks in school, perfect attendance, hours of community service, and the sweetest smile one could ever see.

Everyone loved her. She had a circle of friends attracted to her wealth and charisma. As a child, she couldn't see past the veil of insincerity. Her friends were bought but she didn't care. She had been trained to handle stress with perfect composure; a lady could not yell or gossip behind somebody's back. If someone expressed malicious envy toward her, she turned her nose the other way.

They could hate her for her privilege, but her secrets might surprise them.

Despite everything, Julie was unhappy.

Eventually, life lost its flavor. In the mountainous outskirts of District Two, there was so little to be accomplished as a teenager. Her estate was atop a snow-kissed wonderland, isolated from most of the area, and no matter what she bought, no matter how much she partied, she was bored.

The snow angel her parents had prayed for slowly vanished. The older she grew, the more desperate she became to find any replacement for her boredom. When nothing excited her anymore, she had to try something new. The parties became wilder, the nights longer. Drugs in and out of her veins - her best friend had quickly talked her out of that one, as it wasn't all it was hyped up to be.

Susie was the one person she could count on for everything - the one friend she hadn't bought. They were gossip queens at Julie's sleepovers, because what else was there to do? Nothing exciting ever happened in this little pocket of District Two. She had to be on top of everybody's shit, or she risked running out of things to talk about while braiding Susie's hair. Call her nosy, she didn't care. There was nothing ladylike in her behavior anymore, not according to her parents. She was a rowdy teenager who was out of control.

Yet they never said no to her. They never stopped her. She was too far spoiled, too used to getting what she wanted.

She began to care less and less about the consequences of her actions. If she partied all night, oh well - at least she had new memories to smile about. The popularity didn't hurt either; new faces showing up to her parties was always an event, something to look forward to. She wore charming smiles to seduce their attention. She wanted to know everything about everyone. The boys were fun, if not easy to play with. The girls judged her, but she didn't care since she had Susie. She also knew Susie didn't approve of this dark path, but Julie needed her to break out of her shell. There was such little to explore if she kept her mind closed.

In hindsight, Susie had been right to feel caution. Neither of them knew the dangerous spiral their futures held, and all it took was the appearance of one boy...


Nobody expected the privileged girl to betray her family's values. To vandalize, to destroy, to burn, to laugh at it.

Nobody expected Julie to have somebody else's blood on her hands.

But she will.

Her boredom was only the beginning.
