His brothers were confused; of course they were. His father didn't come to say goodbye; of course he didn't. Kings and pawns, basic principle. He was just one piece of his father's puzzle, and now he was either defective and had taken care of himself so no one else had to waste their time with him, or he was a genius and he was about to make the family rich. Either way, the problem solved itself in his father's eyes.

He smirked, unwilling to show the hurt. Because he wasn't supposed to care at that point: it had been clear time and time again that his father only wanted him around when it was convenient. He'd already accepted that his wedding would be devoid of parents, that his children would never get to meet their grandparents, and he knew that was probably for the best anyway, but even still. It did still hurt.

He waited until he was seated on the train and it began moving to pull a pack of cigarettes out of his boot. He'd clenched one between his teeth when the victors came in; he grinned around it, pointing his thumb into his chest.

"Silas," he mumbled. He struck a match and lit the cigarette, waving the flame out.

"Oh, uh, my brother died in one of these. Dane Allore. Think you guys met him? Like, twelve years ago?"

He leaned forward, rubbing his hands together and then tucking them into his pockets when he realized he was fidgeting too much for comfort.

"We can use that, right? For sponsors and shit?"

The way she was pulled out of the justice building moments after telling me she loved me was heavy. Is it possible not to feel anything for someone who just poured their heart out to you? What rejection she must have felt when I shoo'd her away and watched her walk out the door. It wasn't for my sanity but for her's instead. Who wants to cry and snivel over someone you feel sorry for when you had all the time in the world to love them?

"If I return, you ain't gunna be on my Ratmas list. That's for damn sure." The words had fallen from my lip before the men in white come to collect and move me to the train. The next order of business. "Wanna do me a favor boys - don't miss me too much."

It was a long walk to the train and when I ascended, I felt a powerful moment. Would Avonlea feel proud of me - for walking in her footsteps or would she be disgraced that I chose to follow?

My life was different now. I can't control what's already happened. I guess momma would never get to see me again. I shrug. "Serves you right for wishing me away."

The impectible amount of cleanliness and detail for decoration sent my eyes staring after the shiniest of objects. The richest of the rich designed this cart who had an eye for color and style. I catch myself rolling my eyes as I linger in the hallway to the district partner I never spoke to yet.

"Oh, uh, my brother died in one of these. Dane Allore. Think you guys met him? Like, Twelve years ago? We can use that, right? For sponsors and shit?"

I chuckle to his statement.

"Great. If he's using that, then add in that I'm the descendant of the famous Avonlea Angevin. Second games, I'm sure you've heard of her too, right? We'll become rich with sponsors now!" My arms create a show before tangling them up against my chest again.

"Silas, right? You're a hopeful one, aren't ya?" I dare not move even though the train does.
