THESE VIOLENT DELIGHTS
HAVE VIOLENT ENDS
HAVE VIOLENT ENDS
In the heart of District Nine’s underbelly resides two families. Money and drugs intertwined in vicious ways, in bloodstained hands and wicked betrayals. For decades they have been at odds, the Lockwoods and the Martins—but not at war. Rivals undoubtedly, but not exactly enemies. They manage two very different sides of their little slice of Nine, but violence is never merciful and has plagued the two enough to make them never trust the other. To make a Crimson always look over their shoulder when they hear the cry of a bird. To make a Sparrow stutter at the sight of red in the darkness. But this recent crime against the Sparrows—the assassination of their consigliere is an act of war. It begs for vengeance. And they beg for it too. With this unspoken, albeit already quite shaky peace they’ve shared for years now being threatened and new, stronger adversaries starting to emerge from the streets, they look to strengthen their ranks and ask you to join them.
Make a stand.
Pick a side.
Are you a Crimson or a Sparrow?
✦
the crimsons
The crimson's story is undoubtedly that of Robin Hood and his Maid Marian.
Atticus Martin, the namesake of the modern-day Crimson's very own boss and leader, had spent two decades being stepped on and put down, forced into the factories to manufactures things that he would never even be given the time of day to use for himself. He was disgraced and downtrodden, unable to build a single thing for himself that he could be proud of, a single thing that he could bring home to his parents to say Look, Ma, hands outstretched. We can afford to take care of Dad now.
There wasn't much wealth in Nine, not as much as the likes of One or Two might see in their aristocracy, but Nine had its own version of wealth and Atticus steeled himself standing among them.
So he decided to steal it.
At first, his plan wasn't even to steal everything for himself. He and some of his coworkers banded together, tired of being treated like pack mules that could be led to the slaughter with the wrong turn. So they slipped into homes, stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, taking what they had been owed their entire lives and putting it right back into the neighborhoods from whence they came.
That was how Atticus met his wife, tumbled through her window and smiled as she pressed a knife against his throat. Why take what I'd freely give? she had said, eyes dangerous. It was the kind of story that made people flock to them, the saint-hearted thief and his doe-eyed wife, two raven-haired angels sent from somewhere glorious. They took everything that they could, and sunk every penny that they could spare back into the market, dove deeper and deeper off the edge of morality and started trading in those very same weapons that they had been in charge of manufacturing, buying and selling stolen guns and other weapons.
Today, they drown in money and glory, bask in the sunlight of Nine and refuse to be taken down for every toe they step over the line. They are creatures with barbed wire halos, silver and shining and crowned. They are still a tale of Robin Hood and his merry men, a quiet revolution right beneath the Peacekeepers noses.

the sparrows
The Lockwood origins lie with greed, tucked tightly beside her each night right from the very start. Years ago the first known Patriarch of the name, Wallace, had been young and too smart for his own good, decent at math and even better at counting cards. And once he realized doing so at a game at the end of the block could make him more cash than he’d see in a month of work at the factory, he’d found his new calling. A vocation of sorts. To swindle big bucks from those too stupid to realize he was robbing them blind. Better for him. More money, more food for his family. Eventually even enough to start a game of his own. But once you get a taste of it, when is enough ever enough? The more money you have, the more games you can run. The more money there is to make. Wallace rented a little room beneath the butcher shop around the corner from his house, ran dice and cards for six months before he had enough to open a bar. To keep the drinks flowing so the money did too. The owner up top died in the fall and Wallace bought out the space, opened up his doors to a nicer clientele. He bought a sign in lights, some good oak tables and proper chairs with mauve velvet, hired uniformed servers and above board dealers he’d interviewed himself, met a woman with onyx curls he’d come to propose to no less than six months later. She was smarter than him and doubly ambitious. He’d met his match and made her his wife within the year. They’d have a child in two and Annie would push him to open up three more casinos by the time they both turned twenty-six. Greed spreads her touch to his son with ease and he takes over when Wallace dies, fifty years young after too much liquor every day and a weak heart.
But he leaves a legacy across Nine, one Howard, his pride and joy, takes with both his hands and handles with care as he ushers in the next great Lockwood generation. His passion doesn’t lie with money as much as his father—it’s said no man had ever been as greedy as Wallace Lockwood; stand between him and his money and consider yourself already dead—but he loved his father enough to give him a grandson before he went. A little boy who took to the emerald sin just as his wickedly as his grandfather had. Brandon Lockwood knew how to do one thing: want. And he never knew how to stop. His brother was no better, Charlie just liked to hit things a bit more. The two weren’t terribly smart, but they knew one thing well enough. If you give a man enough to drink, he’ll want to punch someone. And thus birthed the pits beneath their great grandfather’s legacies throughout the district. A ring for two to fight in to the death. Not really. But it’s more fun to say. For advertising. Charlie had pitched it to Brandon and the two were making nearly double the casino’s profits within a month after he’d said yes.
It wasn’t an empire Wallace Lockwood set out to build, though if told he’d done so today he’d undoubtedly pat himself on the back and ask how much money he’s owed in the same breath. But today his great grandson runs the show now and has donned his people the Sparrows. Bird of prey. Birds of death. Don’t cross the Sparrows. They whisper it now. His capos elicit the bent knees of soldiers in their direction. Associates fly to them left and right, as lesser birds desperate to join the flock, scared of what will happen if god forbid they don’t make the cut. Don’t cross the Sparrows. Fear is useful, that much Brandon Lockwood has learned. And in times of strife, when his brother Charlie has been murdered, it is fear—by any means necessary—he needs the most. He needs his son Markus to step up and serve their family the justice they deserve, to find out whose responsible and send them the message they should have already known.
Don’t cross the Sparrows.

about the positions
The head of the family. Every decision is made by them. Every problem is brought to their attention and if ever crossed, prepare to suffer the most severe of consequences. Their job is of the highest order and responsibility: ruling them all. Inherited by blood and blood alone, it is highly coveted but never passed up. A good boss inspires fear among his people, earns their respect and loyalty through protection and unmatched profit. They take care of you as long as you take care of them.
Note: NPC's, but if someone wants to apply, DM Sidney or I and we can chat! :rev:
It’s not a choice, it’s an honor. The legacy is theirs, whether they want it or not. They were born to rule, to take over when their ancestors grow old or perish. No one escapes death, and in most cases it makes them who they are. The title of boss is their future, their fate, the thing that they have been raised their entire lives to become. There's no escaping it.
The boss’s most trusted advisor. The right hand. An unbiased listener whose purpose is to always have the best interest of the family in mind. It is their job to advise. To offer insight, a lending hand, and a shoulder to lean on whenever it’s needed. They are meant to be the conscience and the sounding board to every problem laid at the feet of your leader. Better to keep a position that requires such trust within the family.
Note: must be an adult character.
The mouthpiece of the gangs; the only ones that are allowed across enemy lines to say their piece. In many ways, they are the ones with the most direct line to the bosses themselves, the ones in charge of disseminating their message. Well, whatever message they want to be disseminated, that is. Who knows what’s true and what’s not when it comes to liars and thieves. Ambassadors, alongside Capos, are also the ones who will most often interact with government officials and Peacekeepers, organizing deals to keep the status quo.
Note: must be an adult character.
The captains. They are in charge of running and organizing the soldiers activities. After all, the bosses don’t have time to bother themselves with every little scuffle between one of their soldiers and those from another gang, nor do they have time to go out in the dead of night and slit the throat of an enemy trying to steal product from their most recent shipment. The mid-level muscle, they might just get enough face time with the boss to make something of themself.
Note: 18 or older, please!
There are no small parts. Only small people. The soldiers are in charge of the day to day work, the grunt work, the things that a boss should never dirty their hands getting done. They help to collect shipments, handle the merchandise, and keep their streets clear from neighboring gangs.
The noncommittal allies of the family. They have proven their worth or usefulness somehow, earning themselves a certain order of protection or respect from whomever they pledge their allegiance. To varying degrees, business is conducted with them, and a modicum of loyalty is expected in return. As long as you have something to offer us, we’re happy to welcome you into the family.

wanted characters!
As a disclaimer, all of these are very basic archetypes and we are very very happy to have people apply with their original ideas! Names provided here are of course flexible, just let us know what you're feeling! These are all meant to be sounding boards that you can bounce off of, or people that are in our own character's lives that we would love to see brought to life. The emphasis on this plot though is definitely original creation, so run wild! But if you want a nudge, here's some baby ones.
MATTEO FIORE. 40+. Soldier for the Crimsons.
His role was formerly generally one of broader protection, guarding the Martin estate, as well as traveling with Atticus Martin himself, but since Lena joined the leadership, she has become his personal charge and tends to go where she goes when it’s decided she needs protection. A former Peacekeeper, he is highly skilled in surveillance and tactical planning, as well as has extensive combat experience. Lena can’t remember a time in her life before Matteo was there, only that he has seen her through more than she thinks even her own father was able to.
[UTP] VENTURA. 18-24. Title unspecified. Sparrows.
Baby sister to Leon Ventura, the golden boy with a gilded heart. For as long as she can remember, she has been a caged bird, a darling girl in a not so darling world, loved and cherished and protected by the two men in her life. But with her father’s recent murder and her elder brother growing more and more distant as he tries to figure out who killed their father, she finds the doors to her cage wide open—a world ready to be taken.
Note: FC must be black.
CORA [UTP]. 40+. Consigliere for the Crimsons.
A woman taught from the very beginning all the ways in which she was a disappointment to her parents, she looked into the face of her own sins for years. She never flinched once. They say that there's not a single ounce of tenderness in her whole body, that she was never taught mercy, never taught kindness, that she is a force to be reckoned with, and while that's true, they never saw her the night that Lena Martin ended up in the hospital after the riots, never saw the way she burned. Her fire though burns cold, steady and unbearable. She's been right by Atticus's side for decades, and she's not going anywhere.
DAPHNE MARTIN. 20-25. Soldier for the Crimsons.
The adopted daughter of Atticus Martin's other sister. Once upon a time, she was a daughter to another family, a girl with another name, another life ahead of her, with two parents who belonged to the army of the birds. At the ripe age of fourteen years old, she was already a storm contained in a set of bones, and when the Sparrows executed her parents for taking the drugs they were meant to distribute, she ran through the dark streets right into the den of the Crimsons and told Atticus every secret that she knew. His little sister, for all that she stayed out of the family business, took a shine to her and brought her under her wing.
CLEO BRYANT. 26-30. Soldier for the Sparrows.
From the moment she took her first breath, her life has been a struggle. Found half-dead in a gutter at four, she was taken in by a simple woman who had always wanted a child but was never able to conceive and the two became the only family either of them had ever known. But tragedy struck, and on her sixteenth birthday, Cleo learned not just the true meaning of loss, but the true meaning of power. Ever since, it’s been something she’s chased—something she’s wanted more than anything. To no longer be the helpless victim of the world around her. She wants to grab the district, the world, anyone who stands in her way by the throat and demand what’s hers. Her mother taught her better than that though—raised her better than that. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar, so a sweet little thing she is. Wide-eyed and bushy tailed, excited to take her first steps on her own. Her savior, the man who found her wandering the sad streets of District 9 just one short year ago, Felix, has taught her well: how to lie, cheat, and steal. And never get caught. But most importantly, how to take what you deserve. And Cleo Bryant surely deserves everything.
Note: FC must be poc.
MATTHIAS FALCONE. 22-25. Soldier for the Crimsons.
A momma’s boy if there ever was one. Her pride and joy, her sweet little angel. But to a father who wanted a man and not a sensitive little thing, his childhood was toxic. Mostly spent torn between two feuding parents: his mother, somewhat of a religious zealot, pushing her beliefs onto her baby boy more times than he could count; and his father, a piece of shit by all accounts, a “retired” peacekeeper, though everyone in Nine, including Atticus Martin himself, knew he was a weak man with more bark than bite. Joining the Crimsons was Matthias’ birthright, serving loyally was to be his duty. You will join and you will rise. You will serve as I did—better. You’ll marry a nice girl. You’ll provide for her. And together, you’ll rule. But as he aged, Matthias found other avenues of success, other ways to serve rather than brute force. His mind is his weapon, and numbers—money—is what he knows best. He’s made a fortune off of the Martin family, becoming the most trusted accountant the family has seen in years. He’s proven himself smart, a real self-starter, with a newfound affinity for girls his father would never approve of.
THEODORE MARTIN. 20-24. Ambassador for the Crimsons.
The only son of Atticus Martin's littlest sister, a force of nature not exactly equipped for motherhood, but definitely well-suited to a life of crime. Though he’s as fierce as he is loyal, Teddy has been somewhat of a wild card since he was a child. What’s that saying? They march to the beat of their own drum. His being that of the sound of a roaring crowd in the fighting pits beneath Nine. Since he was twelve, that’s the one true place he’s felt was his home. A tiger among men, there is no doubt in anyone's mind that his own bloodlust may just be the death of him one day. Violent and vicious, there is nothing he wouldn't do for his family. There's no question that he was born to hold a weapon in his hand and perhaps dying in their name will one day be his fate.
Note: FC must be poc. Cousin to Lena Martin (can be adopted if need be).
ANTHONY RAWLINS. 30+. Acting Consigliere for the Crimsons.
A man born for atonement who never quite got the hang of its practice. He was a boy trying to redesign himself into a makeshift god, with all of the ignorance and arrogance to bear, unafraid of shattering himself into a thousand pieces just to reshape them into something terrible, something worthy. He wasn’t a boy born into the mob like some of the others, wasn’t raised in its ranks. He clawed his way through the door and knelt at the Lockwoods throne, determined to stand at his son’s shoulder one day. Alas, his fatal flaw though is this: gods cannot worship themselves, hard as he has tried.
GINA DEKKER. 23-28. Soldier for the Sparrows.
She is as all bark and all bite, all rage and ruin trapped in a five-foot-something, hundred pound or so little body. As feisty as she is feral, Gina is known throughout the streets of Nine as a menace. Not so much a rebel against Panem, but to any authority that dares to say she isn’t in charge of her own life. It’s unclear to most why she’s pledged herself to the Sparrows, but in their service she’s shined greatly, though she’s always felt her services were a bit under appreciated—wishing to climb that ladder as it were much quicker. Capo is the title she knows she deserves, and yet soldier is the one she wears still. If something doesn’t change soon, then perhaps her loyalties will. Again. That’s right. It wouldn’t be the first time a Dekker crossed the line and laid their sword at another’s feet. The Lockwood’s are new, but the Martin’s trained her; made her who she is today. And they’ll never let her forget it if she’s forced to go crawling back on her hands and knees, begging for one more chance. No, that’s weakness. And Gina Dekker isn’t fucking weak.
NIKOLAI PORTER. 32+. Soldier to the Crimsons.
While the Capos and soldiers are the ones wielding the weapons, Kolya is the one who puts the weapons in their hands. No one is sure exactly where they came from, only that they didn’t grow up in Nine. Once upon a time Nikolai was a Peacekeeper, though most in the ranks these days think that he must surely have been a plant there, that someone like him could never have willingly thought: I want to take orders for the rest of my life.
Note: FC must be poc.
BRIANNA DALINGER. 16+. Associate to the Crimsons.
The apple of their eye, the Dalingers have treated Brianna like a princess. Fed with a silver spoon from the day she was born, work has never been a practice she’s accustomed to—and working for what she wants is a foreign concept. When everything is handed to you, why lift a finger at all. With the flutter of her long lashes, or the quirk of her delicate lips into a grin, Brianna can achieve what most spend their lives grinding for. She is as privileged as they come, and can certainly be as vicious as she is vapid. She is a Dalinger, after all.
Note: Sister to Katarina Dalinger.
