Name: Priscilla Cotswend
Age: 16
Gender: Female
District: 8
Appearance:
Priscilla is taller than people think. She tends to slouch and doesn't draw attention to herself, but those who take a good look at her see a tall, thin, pretty girl. She's not pretty in the Capitol more-is-more way, but in simpler ways. She has remarkably clear skin and a symmetrical face.
Priscilla is slightly nearsighted, something that has never been addressed since she lacks the resources to accommodate this flaw or even access to enough medical knowledge to properly diagnose it. However, Priscilla has grown to prefer slower, more detailed work to churning out garments at the sewing machine. She does that, too, of course, to make ends meet, but she is a master embroiderer.
Knowing-- though of course she wished she didn't have to-- about the Games, Priscilla once climbed down the bridge into the river in District Eight to teach herself how to swim. This attempt didn't go well; she almost drowned and was, for the only time in her life, reprimanded by Peacekeepers, so Priscilla decided to focus on developing other skills. She remains of middling ability in most areas, but has grown stronger than most from lower Districts, especially in her legs since running is inoffensive to the laws and so comprises the bulk of Priscilla's workouts. She can run fast, for a long time before tiring, and her kicks are pretty dang hard when she means it.
Personality:
Cilla is a nice girl, and she'd be even nicer if she had an easier life. She tends to be shy, but this has evolved from a near-mute little girl into a reserved girl who knows when and when not to speak. She has very few, very close friends. Priscilla wants everyone to get along, but she gets flustered when she feels too in the spotlight, and she understands the realities that pitch so many people against each other.
Her introversion and temperament do make Priscilla somewhat fanciful. She has hundreds of day dreams about what might happen in various scenarios. Some of these trains of thoughts have borne fruit, like her interest in training as best she is able for the Games and her resourcefulness. However, they mostly boost Priscilla's self-confidence and sometimes distract her from what she's meant to be doing. She has been called "spacey" by more than one foreman in the factory she works at after school.
History:
Priscilla's family does well, by District Eight standards. Their home only has three, small rooms, but, hey, at least they're not starving out on the street? Her father, Sel, manages a warehouse where clothing is stored before being shipped out. It means that he makes slightly more than the people who work under him, but it also means that, whenever there aren't enough Peacekeeper uniforms or whenever the linen's too rough, it falls on Sel Cotswend's head. His wife, Alicia, picks up shifts at the sewing machine more often now that their kids are older.
Priscilla and her 13-year-old brother, Zig, also work at the garment factory everyday after school. This bores Cilla, who'd rather embroider pretty designs-- she does it to personalize her own clothes. Priscilla used to do well in school, until she realized it doesn't matter. Now, she gets average grades and sometimes gets into trouble for giggling with her friends by the window.
Priscilla cares deeply about her friends and her brother and parents. She's got an older cousin, too, who she talks to sometimes. Besides that, though, Cilla tends to clam up in company. She's an introvert.
The swimming incident happened four years ago, so Priscilla has a bit of fear of water now. However, she runs every other day, sometimes eight, nine miles at a time. She dislikes the Capitol, as does her family (her parents will even curse under their breath coming home during particularly stressful times), but what can they do? For now, Priscilla leads a routine, content if not exactly happy life. She hopes for the best.
