Age: 16
Gender: Female
District/Area: 1st
Appearance:
Jade is approximately 5'5 feet tall, and is well built for her age due to training for so many years. She has dark brown eyes, and brown/almost black hair that is usually kept out of her face, be it in a ponytail or a bun. She does not wear make up, normally. She does have a couple of scars from fighting against her brother. One is a long line in the middle of her back, and the other is a lot smaller on her left shoulder. She has another that is barely visible on her left knee.
Being more on the competitive side, she wears clothing mostly for comfort, and not for style. This usually includes pants, and t-shirts. That isn't to say that she is against more feminine wear, just that she doesn't have the lifestyle or time for it. However, if the situation dictates, she is not against putting on some light make-up (though she doesn't like lots, because it is uncomfortable for her) and nice clothing. When in these sorts of situations, she prefers long dresses over short ones. She hates heels, but thinks she looks good in them so would wear it to a fancy situation. This just doesn't happen all that often.
In the colder weather, she prefers sweatpants, and thick, warm jackets. She hates the cold, and would definitely wear a scarf, gloves, and hat to make it at least a little more bearable. She doesn't mind rain all that much, though and wears only a light jacket for that.
Personality:
Jade is an ambitious, and competitive person. Nothing makes her feel more alive than the adrenaline rush she gets when she competes with others, so she isn't one to turn down a challenge. That is, as long as the challenge isn't likely to kill her before she ever has a chance to compete in the Games. There is no way she'd let anything get in the way of her goal to not only win the Games, but make sure her older brother isn't the first in the family to do it. She will do just about anything to achieve her goals, and has very little in the way of a true moral compass.
To those too young to be competition to her, Jade tends to have a more motherly nature and tends to enjoy teaching the younger ones. If she were to, say, play a game of cards with them, she'd still do whatever she could to win said game of cards even at the expense of making those she cared about sad. That is to say, that even though she may love, nurture, and care for someone - that doesn't mean she'll let you win. She'll still win by any means necessary, and she isn't against cheating, either.
Jade's biggest dream is to become a Victor, but she doesn't think much about after that and never even considers the possibility of failing to enter the Games. She is aware, however, that once she enters the Games that she may not make it back out. She's fine with that. Aside from the Games, however, she hasn't thought about anything else. If she doesn't make it to the Games, she has no idea for Careers, marriage or anything else. She'd probably just go with whatever her parents had planned for her.

Opal's marriage was pre-arranged when she was just thirteen, and the moment she turned eighteen she was swearing her wedding vows. Neither Opal or Steel were happy with the pressure of marriage, but both were loyal to their families, so they married as the families desired. Steel never wanted kids, but it was expected of them to have kids, and he found his new wife attractive enough that he couldn't keep his hands off of her, so it wasn't long after their marriage vows were given that Opal was pregnant with their first child. Steel wanted as little responsibility as possible with the future kids, so he worked and provided for the family, and the only interactions he had with his kids would be negative, but that didn't exactly stop him from having more.
By the end of it all, Steel and Opal would go on to have six kids in total, and that was six more than Steel wanted and five more than Opal wanted, but Steel couldn't keep his hands off his wife, so he had many children. He pit them against each other. Well, maybe not in the most obvious way possible, but it worked nonetheless. He only gave recognition to his kids when they did something extraordinary and they all wanted their father to acknowledge them. He drilled it into their heads that they had to participate in the Hunger Games, and only then would they be worth bringing into the world in the first place. He wasn't going to teach them, of course, but he ensured they were all signed up in proper classes and if the kids were more ambitious they may sign up for others. If they did well in the previous classes, of course. Classes included things like martial arts, weapon training, survival training, ect. All were enrolled in basic martial arts programs, and only if they pleased their father and were willing could they sign up for others.
Steel bullied and encouraged his other kids to bully any of his kids who were deemed as weak, or failed a course. This led to a very dysfunctional family. Onyx, the oldest, was the most like his father, or he aspired to be. He loved to torment his younger siblings, and beat up on them. He didn't want any of them to do well, because he wanted to be the one to win the Games and make his father proud. He hated weak people, and as he grew older, he saw it fit to bully anyone he assumed to be weak, even if they weren't family. Jade, younger than him by a year, was hardly a girl who could be bullied. Competitive by nature, and not at all a pushover, the two often fought. Sometimes he would win, and sometimes she would win, but they were always at each others throats.
Onyx never had close ties to the other kids in the family. Instead, he made friends, if you could call lackeys friends, in the district. He would also show off to his grandparents and boast about how well he did constantly. His paternal grandfather loved and spoiled him, making it obvious that they both approved and encouraged such behavior. Their maternal grandparents never paid them much mind, and even ignored their own daughter most of the time.
Opal was the perfect housewife to the outside world. She did nothing more than cook and clean, but she was not a doting mother. While she was never so bad as Steel was, she just didn't have that maternal connection to most of her kids, and spent much of her time trying to get the kids out of her hair. The only kid she really liked was Ruby, and doted on her and only her. She would often take her out and spend time with her, while neglecting the other kids.
Due to this upbringing, Jade did not learn to form close connections to most people and placed herself as the most important person in the world. The only two people she ever cared for was her little brother Gunner, and her youngest sister Dagger. Gunner, she often had to fight Onyx for. Gunner had marginal interest in ever competing in the games, and preferred to do other things. He liked reading, strategizing, and learning how to make things with his hands more. Perhaps, this was one more reason Jade liked him: he would never be competition for her. She just saw him as someone who needed her protection, and she loved him and was more than willing to give him that protection.
Dagger was simply too young. By the time she is old enough to compete in the Games, or compete with her in classes, Jade would already be too old. She would have already been in the Hunger Games, or she would have failed her goal, or gone home in a casket by then. There was never any point in disliking her, so she had always had a sort of kinship with her youngest sister and often helped her whenever she had trouble. Unlike Gunner, Dagger was interested in competing like her older siblings, though she wasn't as bad as the others. She got along with Gunner and Jade, making them the closest of the siblings. Mauve was close only to Gunner, but she rarely protected him and felt he needed to toughen up. Ruby was closer to people outside of the family, rather than those in the family. She wasn't a good fighter, however, and was better with survival courses. She was often a subject of her oldest brother's torment.
Jade, jealous of Ruby getting her mother's attention, never saw it fit to help her sister out which caused some tension between the two and is the biggest reason Jade will likely never get along with Ruby. Being competitive, Jade spends much of her time learning things and competing with other teenagers. She loves to fight, and never turns down a challenge. Currently, she hopes to Volunteer for the Games before her older brother ever gets the chance to. She wants to bring glory home to her family, and despises her older brother.
