i. wait, but did you think wasn't kidding when i said that he wasn't nice? because i was absolutely not fucking kidding in even the slightest. he is not fucking kind. he cares. he cares so much it hurts sometimes, be he isn't fucking nice.

ii. "you're not as bad as people think," she said, putting her lips to his cheekbone.

iii. he grew up fuckin surrounded by drugs. he wasn't brought into the warm, ever-loving embrace of the strauss home until he was nearly fifteen—old enough to think that he had opinions about the world that actually fucking meant anything, young enough to not realize that the opinions of a fifteen-year-old are pretty much worth absolutely fuck all. he was born into the kind of place tainted by secondhand smoke and beer bottles littered all across the floor. didn't much matter where his momma came from though since she ended up leaving him on the front stoop of the pk's offices two weeks after he was born.

iv. he's got a protective streak that runs a mile fucking deep. anabelle dying, no, being killed —that's been eating away at him since the second she stepped into the ring. he'd sooner kill himself than let it happen again. (spoiler plot idea that will Eat Away At Him More: is he actually selfless enough to sacrifice himself for the rest of the kids?)

v. he has killed before. he killed one of his foster fathers, the one from the home just before the strauss's took him in. if it weren’t for the fact that the couple had left their drugs out on that damned kitchen table, dec would have been condemned to spend the coming years of his life in the fuckin juvenile detention center.

expansion:

1. Big nerd about the victors of the hunger games. He's a career who knows his stuff, spent his time at the orphanage before becoming a Strauss watching the games in the square, even repeats when he got the chance to; to distract him from his sorrow filled past of being alone a lot. He can recite every victor ever, the weapons they used, and the fighting style that worked the most for them. He's got no favorite victor, but he's found himself copying them at times when things just aren't working out in his favor when it comes to training.

2. Cocky with his knowledge, he tends to lean on his knowledge over the use of it. At times this can cause some mishaps in his training, which lead to conflict with others. Always up for a challenge in showing something new, he tends to try everything out that he can, even if it doesn't get him very far, though with the new more sinister things going on, Elijah's turned more studious in his studies of past games and victors and more likely to shove it in others faces in order to get a win.

3. Unconventional is more his speed. Using skills that seemed more flashy than useful at times in order to succeed in things. Some say it's his more quirky style compared to the rest, trying to stick out more than others. He's highly average in most things, but the fact he can do some of the flashiest things seems to benefit him at times over others.

expansion: chronic anxiety about dying in the bottom two. probably has night terrors because of it, untrusting of everyone around her because she's convinced they'll fuck her over to stay alive. will have a breakdown over a pimple or five. everyone thinks she's a drama queen and way too neurotic but she does NOT know how to process the word chill because hello? she might DIE?!

CROCODILE TEARS!! yo how could you hit a kid?? haha just kidding come catch these hands.

Currently the youngest in the household. Is the younger sister of Anabelle, they were adopted at the same time. Has not recovered from watching her sister die. Resents Meredith, her sister's so called best friend for not saving her. I picture Victor taking a special interest in her and teaching her to channel that pain, confusion and fury into violence, hoping to mold her into a relentless killing machine as young as possible.  Easily frustrated.  Does not play well with others.
