Mom was my first visitor, tears painting her face. I could see the lights in the room giving her face a shimmering effect as she cried. It broke my heart to see my mother cry, but I tried my best to keep myself composed. I wrapped her in a hug as she came in the room, and consoling words spilled from my lips. "Momma, it's okay. It'll be okay," I told her. She was understandably upset. One of her sons had just put their life on the line for seemingly no reason whatsoever, other than, perhaps, that the boy who was chosen didn't show up. I wasn't required to take his place, but I'd chosen to. Mom knew that. She didn't know why I'd chosen to. "Pisces- my baby- why would you v- v- volun- why?" she was stumbling over her words as they tried to pass through her tears. "I just- I'm not sure. It felt like it was what I was supposed to do," I told her, which was the complete truth. Something was telling me that I was supposed to volunteer. I don't know what exactly it was, but something, tugging at me and refusing to let up, dragged me in that direction. Mom didn't say anything more while we were there aside from an 'I love you' as she was told our time was up together, to which I told her that I love her, too. Again, I was being completely truthful. Yes, I was leaving her and the rest of my family behind, but that didn't mean I didn't love her. I was once again alone in the room where they'd put me in the Justice Building. I sat on one of the plush chairs, tapping my foot in waiting. I wondered right then if another visitor would join me in here. I didn't have to wonder for long, though, as the door came open. "Sagittarius, hi," I calmly greeted him. I hadn't been sure if I'd get any more visitors, but something inside of me was relieved to see him. I gave him a gentle smile. |
