What was kindness anymore?
Annie hated coming to the capitol recently.
There was always too much going on, and now with the news of president snow meeting his demise coursing through the halls of any building that she walked in, she knew that nothing would be the same.
She was still a victor, but who knew what would happen the moment someone else took over. For all she knew, they could have nixed all the current victors and tried to start knew. Annie was known as the girl that survived hell, but that wouldn’t be the case anymore, and honestly, she would accept that. Maybe it would have been easier if she let Bette take her life back then. Now that she knew what came of the 80th games, she would have been revived and she could have lived her life in normalcy instead of holding the weight of the being victor.
She could have found her own reason to live.
But now her reason was for the 22 other tributes that had gone into the arena with her. Though, the more she sat on the thought, she realized that none of them really cared too much about each other. Annie even knew that out of the lot, the only ones she would ever be close too were Parson, Lex, and Wander. She used to say Angel in that mix, as well as Hellion, but they both had spent a lot of time ignoring her calls, and honestly, she did not blame them. Annie didn’t protect either of them when it came down to it, and for the former she killed them. He had every right to hate her, just like Denali and Bette. She would not try to justify her actions, or try to claim that she was righteous in her actions.
After all, the capitol would do that for her.
And even sitting on the rooftop terrace of the building next to the training center in the mid morning had never really felt the same since her constant return to the capitol. She met Shelby here, a good thing. However, with all that was going on, they had both been busy. Annie was a patient woman though, after all, she was known as the girl that saved all her strength for her finale. That’s when her real talents shined, and she showed the world of Panem that she wanted it. Annie had always heard through the grapevine that she was not the favorite to win. She hadn’t even gotten a kill before Angel. She had a hand in most of the tributes she fought deaths, her knives almost never missing their marks, but she never got the kill.
She was going to listen to peoples theories about that, mostly because she won the damn thing. She didn’t need to prove herself anymore. She was here now, trying to decide how much she really needed a drink right now. She had been good, for the most part. She had been supplementing wine and spirits with coffee and tea. She knew that she needed to treat her body better, and her first step would be by not ingesting so much alcohol.
She already had a reputation amongst the crowds.
She came up to places like this when she needed to get away from the loudness of the games, and of course, having Beck now made it just a little bit easier. Annie was sure that she would never be pulled away from the spotlight, seeing as she was still one of the most prolific victors due to her quell. There were so many times when she had to explain that it wasn’t her choice though, and at the end of the day, it didn’t matter.
She still went through it like all the other victors.
But a cup of coffee in her hands, steady, smells almost like the tar that she used to scar countless tributes. And in that moment, she almost threw it all over the patio. However, she blinked her eyes and realized that she was not there anymore, she was not fighting for her life again. Though she would always beg to differ.
She took a sip before placing it back on the table and looking up for a moment.
That’s when she recognized that she was being approached. She knew exactly who the girl was, but Annie never knew if she would be friend or foe. If she had to guess, especially after her experience with Nico, it was always safe to assume foe until proven otherwise.
So her guard was up.
”Hello? To what do I owe the pleasure?” Annie said as the other victor got closer, knowing well that this could go either way, and while it had been a while since Annie had a sour run in with a victor, she was probably way overdo for one.
That was just her luck.
