Emmett Le Roux wasn't meant to be a lion.
The realization hits him with a tidal wave of emotions; not because he cared about his younger brother, but because he took his spot, his golden coat, his everything. It's with a heavy heart that he knew Emmett has made the ultimate statement and part of him is proud in a loose sense, but the blood in his veins boils with an annoyance he didn't realize. A snake found it's way through the pack; leaving Harper Le Roux's glittering perfection behind. Nothing more than an empty crown upon his head. Tongue in cheek, he walks through the white walled halls of the justice building, dressed in the finest of fabrics. Embroidered gold meshed into the blackness of his suit, matching the pristineness of himself, but all of it was wasted on little Emmitt Le Roux.
Silently, standing outside the doors of where Emmett Le Roux is being held like the pathetic lion he was, Harper runs his hands through his hair fixing it up once more. Eyes glancing from the two peacekeepers who were much more relaxed as Harper leans closer to one of them letting his glittering smile appear on his lips, a wink as he notices the young looking peacekeeper nudge to the door in response. Flashily, he opens both doors standing in the middle marching into the room like he was meant to be there. He was meant to be there and not Emmett Le Roux, but he still smiles the way he does with all of his siblings. Deep down, somewhere under all the glitter and gems and flashiness of Harper Le Roux; he had a heart made of gold.
"Little Em! How lovely to see you jump the gun before I could!"
The words bleed with a golden confidence. Harper Le Roux was the only Le Roux who shined brighter than the rest, whether it's from the long hours spent trying to get the perfect tan or the amount of effort he spends on looking like the perfect being. Once in the room, Harper immediately darts forward planting himself into a seat, leaning on his hands staring at his younger brother and sizing up the little lion.
Boring clothes. Boring eyes. Boring expression.
Emmett Le Roux was boring in his eyes.
The Capitol would eat him up on any normal day, but Le Rouxes were meant to glitter like gold, be sturdy like diamonds, and be better than anyone else. Emmett was just like any other District One Career family member. Boring like any of the old Frays who had died. Boring like the pathetic Morenos. Boring like the Shores who had fallen far from grace. A hum on the tips of his lips as he absorbs the way Emmett Le Roux looks. Voice already lifting from his throat; holding the key to getting the capitol's attention and making him big. Glittering enough to be like Ridley, a victor who deserved the crown.
"No need to apologize, took guts to do that."
Twisting his ring, glittering in the direction of Emmett, Harper finally knows what Emmett has to do in order to be better than just an ordinary career.
"You need some work, but you're not hopeless. Don't let your stylist put you in anything white, you need something more contrasting. Reds and golds would be perfect for you, definitely make sure they know that. Or maybe you should wear green, like a dark green. That'd be gorgeous on you."
All of his words spill out with that dramatized sort of way that Harper Le Roux functions.
A larger lion stalking the weaker lion to make him stronger.
Emmett Le Roux needed all the help he could get.
"Just make sure to go in there and show them yourself. Doesn't matter if you're a Le Roux, they want to see who Emmett is andbuild from that. Sell yourself, Little Em. You'll get far if you do."
Deep down, under all the envy and enchanting richness of Harper Le Roux, there's a boy who cared more about his siblings than he let on.
No one had to know.
Harper smiles with the bright whites of his teeth; hiding behind himself to avoid the feeling bubbling in his chest.
