She could feel herself slipping her way, her mind succumbing to the gentle fuzz that comes with death. All she could tell was just her and Helle. The witch crossed Zenia's arms, one over the other on her chest before muttering some words that Zenia could barely hear.
A spell. For what? Zenia didn't know. What she did know was that Helle wasn't evil, that her witchcraft would help her somehow in whatever comes next. And so, as Zenia moved from one life to the next, she felt a warm feeling within her.
As her vision fades to black, she knows that Helle, her murderer, will be protecting her.
Her allies had left her. They were gone, they were alive. Just as she had envisioned in the waking nightmares keeping her up at night. They had left her to die. Jade Morin had fed Zenia to the wolves to keep herself alive.
"A token for the river.
A body for the earth.
A soul for the ether.
Deep peace be unto you."
And as Zenia's consciousness slips away into nothingness...
I awake.
My head pounds with a splitting headache.
My eyes flutter open and shut again as they adjust to the dim lighting.
Is this hell? Where had Helle's magic sent me?
My arms were crossed over my chest, just in the same way that Helle had left me, but instead of nothing being in them, a knife was there. It was beautiful and iridescent. It was just like the crossbow I had shot Perdita Leto in the chest with. It was a work of art.
But it surprised me as my eyes rested on the knife pressed up against my body. I throw it to the side, hearing it clang against the ground.
I try to bring my left arm up to rub my temple, but instead of reaching my head, my hand hits the ceiling of my container. In the dim light, I was just now beginning to notice that I was trapped. My hand runs up one wall on my right, and then it's above me.
But no, I'm not trapped. Where could the knife have gone when I thrown it? To my left.
Wiggling my way out of the small crevice, I fall to the ground next to the knife and look back up. I was in a little section of the wall surrounded by many other little indents. I half expected them to be filled with skeletons, but when I took a peak into one, it was empty.
It was waiting for a future inhabitant.
Was this Hell?
Or I had not escaped the Capitol's grasp just yet. Were my parents watching me on the TV right now just waiting for me to die still?
I felt weak as I try to make out the room in the dim light. It was old, dusty. It reeked of that certain smell death creates. Was that me? Was I dead?
What the hell was going on? What did Helle's magic do to me?
I look down at my clothes. They were the same, but instead of being a pitch black, they were a bright white that gently reflects the small light in the room.
I jump when I hear a noise coming from a distance. It sounded like a slither, the hiss of a snake, the tones of a monster.
"Hello?" I call out nervously, reaching down and picking up my knife in my left hand, clutching it close to my body. "Satan, are you there?"
Another hiss reaches my ears, and then I lose it.
My body loses control and I begin to shake. I feel my breath catch in my throat as I move to sit on the ground and lean up against the wall of indents. I bring my arms and the knife close to my chest and draw my legs in to my body. My eyes stare straight ahead. Maybe whatever's coming will just leave me in peace and let me wallow out whatever eternity I have to spend here in peace.
I stay like that for a while. I'm not entirely sure how long.
Helle must've cursed me to wherever this was. I swear, if the devil drags her down here just like she sent me, I'll make sure she finds Hell suited to her tastes.
Maybe Jade, the girl who left me to die will be here too at some point. That'll be fun.
Looking beside myself as I try to calm down, I spy a small wheel next to where I sit. Engraved on it, curiously, is the word "Shaggin." It sounds familiar, but I just can't place where it came from. It looked battered, as if it was from a time long forgotten.
As the hissing in the distance fades to silence, I take a deep, rattling breath before standing back up. I need to figure out where I am, what I am doing here, and how I can get out.
I take a step forward into the darkness, trying to find my way through to somewhere were I could just find some light.
I step into a new room and spy a giant cross. Teddy bears litter the ground beneath it in an eery pattern. There must be a reasoning behind all of these oddities, right?
Nervously I call out again, "Hello? Can I speak to the manager of this place? I'm lost and can't really find my way out."
As if answering my question, I see bright light coming from the other side of whatever room I had just walked into. It was shining and bright in the darkness. And it was pooling on the ground beneath... something.
Taking a few cautious steps closer, I begin to make out the outline of glistening fangs as the hissing starts back up again. They bring light to the darkness, but a snake never means anything good.
This a test.
And maybe, if I can succeed, I'll find my way out of hell.
"You're not Satan, and I'm just trying to find my way out, so I guess you'll have to get out of my way."
