Sage Hemlock/ District 7

Sage has warm chocolatey brown eyes like his mother and jet-black hair likes his father. He has a slim fit build that allows him to run fairly fast and gives him some sneaky stealthy hands. However, he isn’t the strongest by any means and won’t be able to easily lift anything above 60 lbs without putting some real effort into it. Sage is fairly tall, at around 5’11” ft and weighs roughly 140 lbs. He has recently grown into his handsome face and sometimes uses it to help barter trades for food to his advantage. Sage has nice slender hands that allow him to successfully set various traps that his father taught him how to make and also allow him to play the piano very gracefully. Sage likes to wear long-sleeve t-shirts, particularly green, to help him blend with District 7’s forest-like environment and matching pants that keep him warm during the colder months in Panem. He isn’t really one that likes dressing too much, but will do so on special occasions for family and friends. His family's economic status of being district 7 citizens allowed him to have only a couple nice clothes.

His long legs allow him to run fairly well with nice strides to give him distance. However, he can be clumsy from time to time and trip on various objects underneath him if he isn’t being too careful. Sage walks somewhat loudly and has to stop multiple times if he doesn’t want to get caught doing something he shouldn’t be doing. Years of practice has got him more in tune to his stealthiness, but he can only do so much. Yet he excels in playing ball with friends due to his quick hands that can snatch something very fast due to instinct and good eye-coordination. His swift fingers and focused eyes allow him to make quick attacks with an axe fairly well. It isn’t always peaches and cream over in District 7, so his family allows him to hunt with his father for food so that two pairs of Hemlock eyes are searching for food. He has tried to go hunting by himself only once and was reprimanded for it.

Sage styles his hair with water and gives it a sort of clean yet messy look. He doesn’t like too much attention drawn to him, but every now and then a little bit as always more than welcome. He likes the summer months a lot more than the winter and is more prone to get sick when it gets cold out. During the summer, Sage likes to go swimming with classmates and is an average swimmer, not being too fast or slow, Sage can keep his body afloat and enjoy time in the water. Several classmates of his like to hold breathing competitions underwater to see who can hold their breath the longest. Sage always made sure he wasn’t the first one to rise but only actually won twice out of the hundred times they played. He can eat food pretty quickly and usually does anyways as there is always a lot to do whether it be helping his family do chores, catching dinner, running and swimming with friends, or playing the piano. Sage doesn’t like to sit around and do nothing, he enjoys having multiple tasks at hand.

Sage is a fairly warm individual. He tries to greet everyone in his path and has a good small group of friends that he enjoys hanging out with as much as they enjoy his company. He gets in trouble every so often by acting before thinking and this is often why he gets in trouble from time to time. He makes up his mind very quickly which can be both good and bad depending on the situation.. Sometimes when he feels something is unjust, he does speak up about it and gains mixed reactions from others. It is his life after all and while the Capitol controls the Districts now, he is hoping one day the districts will all rise up again like they did before during the Rebellion several decades ago… only this time, they win. He is optimistic for a better future, but understands that might not be a possibility for a long time… maybe not even his lifetime. Sage hates attending the reapings as they only lead to more heartbreak and the loss of a classmate and neighbor.

He hopes he or a friend never gets picked for the games but Sage won’t sit there and cry if he does. While he is not as strong, inventive, or calculating as some of the other other district kids, he knows to trust in himself and use his speed, great knowledge of setting traps, good ability of axe handling and swimming to make a decent contender. He does fear ambushes and eats something poisonous by mistake. While his mother is a skillful forager, Sage never picked up on that ability and can’t tell the difference between a regular fruit and plant vs one that can end lives. Thus, if he was chosen to be a Tribute for District 7, he would most likely avoid foraging and stick to meat as a main food source.

Sage is a bit of an introverted extrovert, meaning he mainly likes to socialize but appreciates alone time. He likes hanging out with his District 7 friends and enjoys the camaraderie that they share. Sometimes he and the others like to joke around and pull pranks on each other for the heck of it. Sage loves having fun rather than work, but he does come to terms with putting forth effort in work when he needs to. Sage is initially observant and cautious with newcomers or strangers to town, but he eventually opens up when they have proven time aftertime that he can count on them. He likes caring for family and friends and doing what he can to help out in and out of the house. Sage hopes to eventually get into some sort of trade business when he grows up or if not, he will take up a lumberjack position like his father.

Sage was born an only child to Juniper and Cypress Hemlock. The Hemlocks were high school sweethearts and got married after they finished general schooling. It was a small yet pretty ceremony held outside near the lovely woods of District 7. Then several months later, Juniper got pregnant with Sage and their little family fully formed. Their position could definitely have been worse off if they were one of the later districts that were worked to the bone for scraps of food, sometimes going a couple days without food while working in arduous working conditions. Sage’s father works as a lumberjack for District 7, using his strong and sturdy arms to cut down trees and collect lumber. Sage’s mother works as a forager to collect essential plants and berries that could be used as medical and food sources. Their jobs keep them pretty stable, but when taxes were raised as little punishments to the Districts, it made it harder to maintain a nice meal, but the Hemlocks do what they can to at least do something to keep them going on.

Sage is a good student with the occasional rebellious streak. He absorbs new information pretty well. However he sometimes gets distracted talking with friends and gets reprimanded in class because of that. There are only a handful of teachers that he actually respects enough to give them his full attention. In his mind, if Sage doesn’t get reaped for the Hunger games or miraculously survives it, he would end up working as a lumberjack like his father. It provides manageable pay to keep a family afloat. Sage wouldn’t mind going into that field, but deep down has always aspired for more than just that. He wants to explore outside of District 7 and really experience the world around him, but that’s just a pipe dream. Only people with money or some sort of pull had the ability to explore the vast land of Panem.
