The morning light dances through fluffy, light clouds. Tipping her head back she allows herself to indulge in the feeling of the suns rays against her skin. It was the first time this week that the skies had started the clear, the run coming out of hibernation and Clio was determined to spend as much time as she could bathing in the heat-
"Clioooo," the sound of her brothers voice slips through the air, and suddenly the heat that kissed her face seemed to turn cold. One moment, that was all that she was asking for. Just a couple minutes where she didn't have to be at anyone beck and call. Just one moment when she was allowed to enjoy simple things, such as the touch of the sun against her tanned skin. Stifling a grumble her takes one last look at the sky before retreating in the direction of Jasper's voice.
"Hey buddy," the smile easily spreads across her lips as she ruffles the top of his head, causing him to shriek with joy as he tried to dodge her touch. "What's up?" She squats down to his level, looking him in the eyes- eyes that were identical to their mothers. She wondered where her mother was now. Or her father. One day she had woken to them gone, no note, no nothing, just the cried of her younger sister. Often she would find herself wandering why they have left, why they believed it was okay to abandon their three children, leaving them to fend for themselves in a world consumed by cruelty.
Shaking her head she refocuses on her brother, brushing some hair from his eyes as he speaks. "I'm hungry. I'm always hungry, why- why don't we ever have snacks in the house? Mum and dad used to have snacks..." His voice trails off, his eyes dropping to the ground as his energy suddenly drops. "When- when are they coming home?"
I don't know, she almost says but stops herself, her lip caught between her lips as she tries to hide the hurt that dances in her eyes. She tried, and failed to find the words to tell her brother that she wasn't sure that they were coming back. So instead she stand back up straight, pulling Jasper into a hug her head resting on the crown of her brothers head. "I- I'll go get something for you to eat," she manages, before placing a gentle kiss on his head and then pulling away, avoiding his eyes as she grabbed what little coin they had and marched off into the suns light- only this time she couldn't feel the warmth. She felt nothing as she walked.
She is halfway to the market when she runs into him, her mind wandering off with thoughts that seemed to consume her focus. Her shoulder clashing with his body, the apology dances on the tip of her tongue. "I'm sorry! I'm such a klutz, I wasn't paying attention-" She meets his eyes, her words cut off. There was something oddly familiar about them, but she couldn't quite place where she knew them from. "I'm sorry, but have we meet?"
