Death's slow.
They say that, when you die, your life flashes before your eyes.
Mine didn't. It already did that the first time around.
One time going through life was bad enough by itself.
Two times, from being killed the first time, was kind of annoying.
Three times is just absurd.
Instead, after I felt the life, the fight draining from my battered, bruised, bloodied body stained all shades of blue and purple, after my final request to the girl who didn't even know my name, the world goes nearly still.
Her hands move towards me, and sluggishly, I try to evade her grasp to no avail.
As I back up, her leg comes up behind mine, and I fall towards the sky.
"I'm not looking for peace for the time being... but I'll be happy to give you yours."
At first I think there's nothing there, simply clouds. I'm falling back down from heaven and into hell. My crown topples from my head and into the waves crashing beneath the sky.
And then the sky breaks away, and my head is thrust under the blood-stained water.
Her hands part the clouds, reaching down from heaven as I try to bring my head back above water, keeping me from ascending.
Reaching up, I grasp at them as I shake, my eyes wide as the hands parting the clouds keep me down.
My mind goes blank.
Not like last time.
Not like the first time.
All I know is that I want to break free, to breath again.
My hands reach up and scratch at hers, desperately trying to pull them from me as I feel my mouth beginning to fill with water.
But as I feel my vision darkening, my eyesight blurring, as her hands and the waves meld to become the sky, I know it's useless.
I'll see Meredith and ask her how she died. Maybe we'll dance together to invisible music once again, our arms swinging in the lobby as we wait for an elevator down.
I'll see Cyro and ask him for pictures of his son before he joins us too, hopefully at a much older age than us.
I'll get the place tidied up a bit for Jade and Pisces and Dom, and maybe, eventually, Kahinta.
It'll be our corner of hell.
Our fellow demons haunting us will tease us for being the twice dead tributes of the 85th hunger games, or maybe even double trouble if we're lucky.
I feel my hands wrap around hers, my fingers lacing between hers as they go slack. We are together. Killer and the killed. Damned forever in eternity. Stuck in this moment in time as my body freezes and the bubbles escaping my mouth and nose halt mid pop.
And then, as I see the last bubbles, my last ounce of life, float above and away from my head, and my vision blurs to black, all I no longer feel useless or a disappointment.
The gamemakers may drag me back to life again, but all I feel now
