K E L S I E .
The waves crash against her homes, echoing around her as the winds pick up pace. She wraps her blanket around her tighter, hugging her knees to her chest. Nights like these reminded her of the night she lost her family. She could still hear her mothers calls, pleading her to stay on the boat. To stay safe. Eyes drift shut as silent tears fall down her pale cheeks. She imagined that her mother was beside her, arm wrapped around her shoulder, head resting against the crown of her own. "There is nothing to be scared of," she'd whisper, turning to press a kiss to her hair. "its only a storm. It will pass."
It's only a storm. She reminds herself as her boat his pounded by wave after wave. Its only a storm. Thunder tears through the harsh bellowing of the wind. Its only a storm. It cant hurt her. She is safe, her boat tied securely to the jetty. Its only a storm. Her boat sways aggressively from side to side, the ocean and wind at war, her boat caught in between. Its only a storm-
I have to get out of here.
Ripping the blanket from her shoulder she climbs to her feet, the ground moves beneath her, throwing her off balance. A string of curse words leave her lips as she fights to regain it. Fingers claw at the handle of her door and she throws it open before heading to the hatch. After a couple moments it open, the winds protesting as she puts all her weight behind it, forcing herself free. Instantly she is attacked by the weather, rain and salt water invading her mouth, her eyes.
"Fuck," she curses as she rushes for the edge of the boat. She looks over, the surging water angry. There was a small gap between her and the jetty. She had done the jump everyday for the last few years, she knew it off by heart. But with the storm that surged around her, her uneasy thoughts and icy memories the gap seemed like a chasm, taunting her.
Backing up she takes a deep breath, her eyes glues to the jetty, planks soaked from rain. They would be slippery, making it hard for her to stick the landing. But she had to do it, she couldn't stand it anymore. She had to get out of the storm, get away from it all or she feared that she would fall down, deep into a dark hole that she had spent so much of her energy trying to avoid.
Just jump.
Don't think.
Taking a deep breath she moves, her bare feet slipping slightly as she took off. Then she jumped. The boat beneath her dissipated as her body was thrown over the any waters, connecting with the rotting wood of the jetty. It groaned beneath her, but she held on, hair soaked, clothing soaked. Its only a storm. Nothing to be scared of-
Eyes look up and they meet with familiar ones. Sang. Pushing her fears and discomfort to the back of her mind she scrambles to her feet, the rain pounding down around them. Biting her lower lip she smiles, no one knew that she lived out here, alone, in a boat that looked quite sad and pathetic being tossed around in the stormy waters. "Sang, what a surprise," she calls over the winds, "what are you doing out here?"
