You were never the favorite.

There was only your little sister to compete with, but she was the perfect angel and you were well, not. Every step you made was incorrect, even if you breathed slightly too loud a scolding would be coming your way. You tried and tried to meet perfection, but you always seemed to fall just short.

It is infuriating.

Mother and Father expected only your best, especially when company was over. They were well known people, and Mother and Father's status was everything to them. The more people that liked you the better for you and for them. Careful words, careful movements, careful thoughts. Your best dress, your best manners, your best smile. Anything less and you would be punished to your room for a week. One time, they even brought in a private tutor to teach proper etiquette. Of course your sister was praised for her perfection.

Like always you were just subpar.

Sometimes, when Father got too drunk and you were to average, he would do more than scream for hours on end. Sometimes he would go too far and the tears would roll down your cheeks for the rest of the night.

And you still have the burns to prove it.

If anything he taught you that it's dangerous to follow your heart. Always follow your mind and let logic decide what's right and wrong. No one wants to know the real you. She's broken, and sensitive, and falling apart. She is supposed to stay hidden and far away, a danger to your status and your name.

They only want to know the girl you've forced yourself to become.

School was meant to be an escape. A place where you were finally the favorite.

But even here you fell into the same hole, finding a way to please whoever you talk to, no matter what the cost.

Even if it ends in death.

You found a way to bury your true self, only speaking words the others wanted to hear. Only the clothes you designed showed the real you, but just barely. Others would have to look deep into their designs to understand who you truly are. You've done such a good job at hiding her they would never know you are fighting a battle inside. You acted without thought, did what they asked without question, even if deep down you knew it was wrong.

The two of you were friends once, but when they ask, you don't say no. How could you? They were all finally starting to like you and you would do anything for them. So, you invited her to the party that would ruin her entirely, even though you knew it would ruin a part of you too. It tugged on your heart strings, to watch a girl be destroyed and knowing you played a role. But you pointed and laughed along with the others anyway.

Social status was everything and you were finally nearing the top.

And you wouldn't allow anything to stand in your way.
