Name: Summer Thomas
Age: 14
Gender: Female
District: 9
Appearance:
Summer, despite working for hours on end in fields of wheat, still maintains fair skin with a healthy cool undertone. Her striking diamond blue eyes and soft light blonde hair sets her apart from most residents of District 9. When standing in large crowds she can be spotted from afar with these uncommon traits. Her small stature, standing at around 4'10 (1.47 m) and weighing only 86 lbs (39 kg), lets off a softhearted aura that many residents of District 9 feel when standing in her presence. As a result, Summer is quite well-liked by the people of District 9 who live in her immediate area. Despite her small stature Summer has somewhat defined muscles as a result of her work in the fields of District 9 and, despite being somewhat short, can lift around 38 lbs (17.2 kg).
Due to her small, yet muscular, stature Summer is quite the fast runner and can run one mile in around 6 minutes. Despite being talented on land Summer does not know how to swim overly well due to living in the land-locked District 9. Summer is also not trained on many of the weapons that appear within the hunger games cornucopia though she is familiar with sickles and pitchforks due to both being a commonplace in District 9. Summer is often treated with more respect from the adults of District 9 than most other children most likely due to her soft appearance and hard-working nature. Due to this Summer still maintains the innocence of a young child and has not witnessed much conflict in her life outside of viewing the hunger games and the occasional roughhousing peacekeeper.
Personality:
The first word the comes to mind when most residents of District 9 think of Summer is: helpful. Summer often is found helping out other children whether it be in the fields or in school. She is a quick learner and would never be found boasting about it. Her father, Emmett Thomas, and mother, Mazie Thomas, raised Summer up with the thought that respectfulness and politeness are two of the most important character traits one might find in a person. Through a combination of strict parenting and love Mr. and Mrs. Thomas brought up a child who reflected their teachings and still to this day values her good morals over all other things in life. This may pose a problem should Summer ever be reaped for the Hunger Games as she would have to go through a lot to ever bring herself to kill another human being.
As stated earlier, Summer still retains most of her childhood innocence due to not witnessing as much conflict as other residents of Panem. One downside of this fact however, is that Summer is very trusting. She values good morals so much she just cannot comprehend that some people are just not as good-natured as she is to the point where she could be stabbed in the back with little to no expectation of it. Alongside being too trusting Summer is also quite fearful. Despite not showing it to others it's no wonder Summer, and many other children of Panem, are terrified. Each year Summer watches twenty-three children pass away knowing full well that next year it might be her getting an arrow to the neck. This fearfulness leads Summer to avoid others around the time of the reaping not wanting to get too attached to anyone who might be sent away to their death and vice versa with someone being too attached to her.
Summer would most likely get above the average amount of sponsors should she ever be in the Hunger Games. Alongside her easily lovable "underdog" appeal and her respectfulness she's also quite articulate with words and would most likely come off well in the theoretical pre-games interview. Though most likely not "winner material" she would go down as a loved tribute who's death would cause many in District 9, and Panem for that matter, sorrow due to her mature personality. She dreams of one day raising children who value her morals as much as she does. Though not perfect in every way Summer is still very well liked by many in her District and will, hopefully, continue living a hard-working life in the wheat fields of District 9.
History:
Summer grew up as an only child raised by Emmett Thomas and Mazie Thomas of District 9. She grew up poor, as many do in District 9, and this is well represented by her small stature, most likely caused by stunted growth due to lack of food. As stated previously Summer's parents raised her with good morals in mind and as she grew up she reflected their teachings by becoming a mature and helpful young girl. She attends school as well as work in District 9 and is often found helping others which brings great pride to her parents. Summer has never seen anywhere that isn't District 9, she's never visited another district, never been outside the walls, she's lived her 14 years of life in the vast fields of 9.
Summer has never personally known any of the District 9 tributes since she's been alive however she lives in constant growing fear that this might occur in the future. Summer is somewhat skilled with using sickles and pitchforks due to her time working in the wheat fields but besides that has never wielded another "weapon" of that caliber in her life. She's never met any residents of other districts besides the peacekeepers of 9 however, she rarely if ever speaks to these peacekeepers and, like most others, keeps her distance from them. Her closest friends are those she attends school with due to her often helping them out. She rarely gets any form of social interaction outside of school and home due to working in the fields and as a result doesn't have that many close friends but the close friends she does have are extremely close to her heart.
Growing up a rather sheltered child Summer did not have the most exciting of childhoods, like most of Panem. However, she did grow up as an example of what District 9 portrays, hard-working, honest, and respectful. Her parents hold her close and are very proud of the young woman she is turning into. She plans to one day have a happy family, or at least as close to happy as they can get, with children and a husband that value good morals just as much, if not more, than she does. As a result of growing up in a rather calm manner she has not grown a disdain for the capital as much as many others in her district but still agrees that the hunger games is inhumane. She looks forward to the rest of her life and treats everyday like it's the last knowing full well she has the possibility of being reaped for the games.
