The problem is that everything shows your cards. Reveals your hand. Tells the world exactly who you are and who you are not.

From your handwriting down to the way you scratch your nose. Whether or not you walk on the balls of your feet or you drag your heels, square your shoulders and stand upright or slump down and make yourself smaller. Every time you breathe you paint your own self-portrait. The little scientific details reveal who you are, too; the yellow of your teeth or lackthereof; your bloodshot eyes. Your entire history of drug abuse sits right there in every single one of your strands of hair, a whole collection of all the horrible things you have done to your own body sitting right there in the follicle. The lining of your stomach. The way you talk, the vernacular you use and the way your form words differently than someone else. Your accent and the way you say water. The crinkles around your eyes and mouth, the smooth skin of your hands or the scars along your knuckles.

You think that you have all of these secrets, that you're holding all of your cards close to your chest, but one look at you and someone could list off a whole collection of things that reveals exactly who you are. The clothes you decide to put on when you roll out of bed in the morning are a document for anyone to read and use as a jumping off point to figuring you out. Everything you do gives a piece of you away.

Everything anyone is reveals something about themself.

And that terrifies you.
