The interview was supposed to be simple, in and out answer a few questions about her family, plans, and goals for the district. That easy, plaster on a wonderfully charming smile and tell the district everything they wanted to hear whilst ignoring her desire to begin drug trading with district seven.

They didn’t need to know that, all they needed to know was that she was going to bring district two back to its former glory. It’d be a household name that they could all be proud to say instead of the current shame that rose with the words -district two.

It had been a grand mistake taking along a few of the younger children in the house to her most recent interview. She should have known that Tobias would be a feral child, unwilling to participate in anything she asked. She was definitely putting his name down come next games, she was tired of his shit. Hopefully, the other kid would get rid of him for her.

“Tobias, sweetheart, you need to calm down,” Octavia kneeled down beside him, but not too close so that he could reach her. Her eyes glinted with a threat, smile tight as she looked him in the eye. “Remember what we talked about before we came?”

Yes, his name was definitely going on the board.

TOBIAS STRAUSS

Objectively speaking - Octavia would be the worst mayor Two's seen in, like, ever. I'm the only one that seems to realize that though, because she's got everyone else eating out of the palm of her hand. But I guess she needed a cute face for her campaign and Izzy's too much of a psycho to swing her any votes.

Anyways - she won't get me that easy.

See, I had this whole plan to ruin her speech, maybe let my fire ants loose on stage while she talked, but someone must’ve told on me because Octavia locked me in my room that morning before I could even get out of bed. I dunno what she told Victor, I’m sure he heard me yelling.

As soon as we get to the interview, I'm ready. I'm pretty sure I can get at least one shot in before the whole thing goes south so as soon as the interviewer sits down from across us I shoot up, "DON'T LISTEN TO HER," And I ignore whatever excuse Octavia tries to come up with, I've got a one track mind and she's not getting away with this one, "SHE'S CRAZY!!"

She kneels down and I back away out of instinct. Last time she locked me out of the house, Finn didn't find me until morning. I could've died.

"She tried to kill me." I jab a finger in her direction and try to stay a few steps away. She knows that if she was in reach then I'd bite her, but I know that if I was in reach then she'd hit me.

Octavia Strauss --

It was her time.

Honestly, she'd have to thank the little brat later for giving her this perfect opportunity. Octavia felt the tears well in her eyes, she looked at the cameras, her line set in a saddened smile as she swallowed stiffly.

"I had hoped this wouldn't happen today-" her voice cracked and she looked away and back towards Tobias, reaching up to wipe a tear from her cheek. "Before my brothers and I saved Tobias, he-" Octavia took a deep breath, standing up to face the cameras with a determined look.

"His mother tried to kill him. Unfortunately, she was locked away for the abuse he suffered, she tortured him, she did," Octavia's lip trembled and she wiped again at her eyes, taking a moment to collect herself. She loved this kind of acting, it made her heart beat faster, it thrilled her. "She did awful things to him."

She looked back at Tobias, a sad smile on her face as she stared at him. Her eyebrows knitted themselves into concern, deep sadness etched into the lines around her eyes. "Shortly after adopting him, we learned that his mother looked a lot like me, and sometimes the trauma he suffered causes him to lash out at me."

She faced the cameras, the crowd of journalists soaking in each of her words. A few sniffles here and there, silence radiating as they waited for her to continue. "But no matter what, I will always love him, and I will try my best to show him that life can be better and that he deserves more."
